Endless - chain machines. - In an excavating- machine of the type in which the cutters act continuously in the direction of travel, the dredger arm 4 is inclined in a transverse plane, the head of the arm being pivoted to the travelling framework so that the arm can be arranged at any desired angle. Means are described for enabling the cutters to act horizontally, notwithstanding the inclination of the dredger arm. For removing the top layer of soil, cutters 10 resembling ploughshares are provided, the cutters being curved so as to deliver the waste soil into the trench; the cutters are preceded by a saw actuated by a crank-pin on the wheel axle. The apparatus cuts a stair-like trench, and is particularly applicable for excavating peat from moist boggy soil.
