A., 4, Lucas Estate, Thomas Lane, Knotty Ash, Liverpool. June 4, 1930, No. 17233. [Class 40 (i).] In means for indicating at a remote point the readings of a meter, the meter needle is adapted to move adjacent to but normally clear of a series of contacts and at intervals to establish electrical connection with one of these contacts, whereupon a signal numerically characteristic of this contact is transmitted to the distant point. In the construction shown in Fig. 1, the indicating scale is provided with a row of contacts 11 corresponding to the indications on the scale, and the pointer 10 of the meter is brought into engagement with one of these contacts by means of a stirrup-shaped member 12 which is connected to armatures of electromagnets 24, 19. The circuits are shown in Fig. 3. The meter controls a rotary step-by-step switch which is set in operation periodically to transmit to the distant point a series of impulses corresponding to the reading of the meter. Relay A has its lower winding connected to a conductor 33 over which impulses are transmitted at regular intervals. On the application of an impulse the winding is energized, a holding circuit is prepared for the upper winding, a circuit is completed for coils SM1, SM2 which operate to bring the meter pointer into engagement with one of the row of contacts on the meter scale, and a circuit is completed through the first bank contact and wiper 3a of the stepping switch, through the relay E, and through the driving magnet PSM. Relay E alone operates in this circuit and completes an energizing circuit for the magnet PSM at the same time shortcircuiting itself. The magnet prepares for the stepping of the rotary switch and operates the interrupter springs psm, opening the circuit of relay E. This relay on releasing de-energizes the magnet PSM which steps the wipers of the rotary switch to the next set of back contacts. Wiper 2a then maintains a locking circuit for relay A, and wiper 3a engages a plate to maintain a circuit for the magnet PSM controlled by the relay E. The wipers of the switch PSS continue to step, and in accordance therewith a line circuit is completed and interrupted for an impulsing relay PR at the distant point. This relay effects the setting of an indicator MCH adapted to indicate the reading of the meter. The impulsing circuit to the distant point is maintained until the wiper 1a engages the contact marked by the engagement of the meter pointer PT with the contact corresponding to the reading of the meter. A circuit is then completed through relay B which locks itself and opens the impulsing circuit. The switch steps round until the home position is reached whereupon relays A, E, B, and coils SM1, SM2 are de-energized. Specification 337,007, [Class 40 (i), Electric signalling systems &c.], is referred to.
