Liquid and gaseous fuel furnaces; regenerators. -In a gas or oil fired crucible furnace the heating-gases are led off from the crucible chamber through an annular flue e in which is arranged a helical pipe h<1> for preheating the air or combustible mixture supplied to the burner c. The air &c. to be heated passes upwards through the coil, or downwards through a connection i to the burner, which delivers tangentially into the crucible chamber. The pipe h<1> is preferably of such diameter that the heating-gases are compelled to take a helical path on their way to the chimney flue k. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 15778/14 and 129,943.
