Measured quantities, delivering.-R e l a t e s to apparatus for charging bottles &c., and is more especially a d a p t e d for filling opaque vessels with measured quantities of aerated liquids &c. The measuring-cylinder A is fitted with a piston B, and opens at its upper end into a cylinder D of smaller diameter. The latter cylinder is fitted with a piston F connected to the piston B, and the space between the pistons is open to the air at H. The quantity of liquid delivered from the cylinder A is regulated by the adjustable screw stop C, w h i c h determines the stroke of the pistons. The passage 1 from the cylinder A can be put in communication, through the two-way port in the cock P, with the supply passage 3 from the reservoir of liquid, or with the passage 2 to the bottle &c. to be filled. The cylinder D can be similarly put in communication, through the pipe 4 and a second port in the cock P, with an exhaust pipe 5 to the top of the liquid reservoir, or with a pipe 6 to a reservoir of compressed gas. The cock P is first turned to connect the cylinders to the passages 3 and 5, until the cylinder A is filled with the liquid, and is then turned to connect the cylinders to the passages 2 and 6, on which the liquid is forced by the gas pressure from the cylinder A into the bottle. The gas pressure in the liquid reservoir is maintained by the exhaust gas from the cylinder D. The apparatus can also be employed in bottling non-aerated liquids under a slight gas pressure.
