Tyres, pneumatic.- Pneumatic tyres for cycles, motor cycles, &c. are provided with a protecting-band b, to which is riveted or hooked a thickening- piece a, while a band f prevents the hooks from injuring the outer cover d. The bands and the piece a are of chrome-tanned leather. To unite the parts b, f to the cover, one or more. layers of rubber solution are applied to their contact surfaces, and, when this is dry, a coating of a liquid composed of 98 per cent. sulphide of carbon and 2 per cent. protochloride of sulphur is given, and the parts are then pressed strongly together. The parts a, b may be similarly united before being furnished with the headed hooks or rivets c. The band b has a roughened surface for preventing side slip.
