Acetylene lamps; beacon lamps; buoy lamps.-Relates to carbide containers and to buoy and beacon lights, table lamps, and the like, and may be used in connection with the apparatus described in Specification No. 21,691, A.D. 1898. The upper part of the carbide container A is divided into compartments by radial partitions A', and the watersupply outlet or pipe Q<1> is arranged eccentrically, so that water is supplied to the carbide in one of the compartments only. If the lamp be used continuously, the spring C and the false bottom B maintain the lower part of the carbide in contact with the damp upper layer, and the water attacks the carbide in the other chambers below the partitions A', but, should the lamp be out of use for some time, it is only necessary to displace the water outlet Q<1> relatively to the carbide container, which may be done in the construction shown by rotating the part L<1> in the water seal L, to cause the water to attack the carbide in a fresh compartment, and recommence immediately the generation of gas instead of after the saturation of the lime products, as would otherwise be the case. In a modification, the partitions A' extend to the bottom of the container A, the water being then supplied by a central tube, which is perforated at different levels to cause the water to enter the chambers successively as it gradually rises in the tube; a small gas bell may also be provided for storing the gas generated after the water supply has been cut off. The water supply is controlled by hand-actuated valves. In buoy lights, the water is supplied centrally from a point at some distance above the carbide container, to the different compartments of which the water is distributed by the movements of the float supporting the lamp.
