Fastenings, railway and other carriage door and like.-The fastening consists of a spring latch B, and a revolving arm A which is acted on by a spring C through a lever D and a roller d. The roller d bears against a cam surface E on the inner end of the arm A. The arm A is retained in the vertical position by the engagement of the roller d with a recess e, but when the door is slammed the projection b<1> on the latch B forces back the arm A, so that, on rebounding, it turns to the horizontal position shown in dotted lines, where it is held by the engagement of the roller d with the depression e<1>. The latch B is withdrawn by the engagement of the arm A with the shoulder b. In the modification shown in Fig. 3, the shoulder b locks the arm A in the vertical position, until the door is slammed, and the surface E is such that the spring C immediately acts to turn the arm into the horizontal position.
