Sale apparatus ; delivery mechanism.-In a coinfreed apparatus for delivering small articles 42 from a shoot 40, the bottom article 42 is pushed out, between a sloping roof 47 and a ledge 48 leading to a delivery passage 46, by a fork 8 pivoted to a projection on a projecting slide 1 normally prevented from being pushed far in by a shoulder 31 on a pivoted detent resting on an adjustable screw pin 34. Fortune-telling apparatus ; actuating-mechanism. -A fortune-telling cylinder 70, exposed at a slot 81 in the cover 80, is operated by a pawl 72, engaging an annular ratchet 71 and pivoted to a spring-withdrawn lever 73 oscillated by wires 74 having a cross-bar 75 in the path of a projection on the slide 1 and a cross-bar 77 to prevent the accidental ejection of the lowest article 42. Coin action.-When a coin is placed in an opening 2 in the slide and the slide is pushed in, the coin acts on the tail 22 of a spring dog 20, pivoted to a lever 10 projecting through a slot in the slide, so as to lift the detent lever, having an adjustable screw pin 38 resting on the dog, against the action of a spring 35. A bridge 6 on the slide subsequently raises a projection 33 on the detent lever so as to render the action of the slide easier. Coin tipping or discharging mechanism. - The coin is subsequently discharged down a shelf 57 to a cash drawer 60 having a slanting side 61 and a trap-door 62, so that, when the drawer is moved backwards by the arm 66 of a shaft 63 operated by a handle 64 normally engaging a recess in the cover 80, the coins are discharged into the delivery throat 46. Fraud, preventing.-If a washer is used instead of a coin, the tooth 23 on the dog falls into the central hole, and prevents further operation. If a paper or soft-metal blank is used, the tooth 23 either bends or cuts it, and so the dog does not operate the detent lever. A coin of less diameter than the proper coin fails to operate the detent lever. The discharge shelf 57 is arranged obliquely, so as to deflect the coin in such a way as to prevent it from being withdrawn by an attached thin-metal strip. To prevent a thin strip of metal from being used to manipulate the machine, a notch 25 is formed in the dog to receive the end of the strip and prevent further action. Empty machines, locking action of.-When the shoot 40 is empty, an arm 45, pivoted to a weight 44, projects in the path of a projection on the slide to prevent its operation.
