Hopper wagons; axle -trucks or undercarriages. - A self - discharging railway truck is constructed with bottom-discharge flaps which can only be opened after the body has been turned into a position at right-angles to the underframe. The body may have a circular bar 4 resting on rollers 5 on the underframe, and may be turned about a pivot 3 by bevel-gear 6, 7 and spur-gear 8 actuated by a removable crank at one corner of the vehicle. The ends of the body have flaps, hinged longitudinally or transversely, which can be operated successively or simultaneously by levers or spindles at the end of the body, or they may be operated automatically by the turning mechanism when the body reaches or leaves its discharging position. Slide pieces 13 on the bottom flaps are guided by rails 14 on the underframe so that the flaps cannot open when the body is in its normal position. A saddle-back 12 is provided which may be removable, or made of two hinged parts capable of being folded down to enable ordinary goods to be carried. Side or end doors may be provided in the body.
