Signal lamps and ships' side and masthead lights.-In lamps in which the internal chimney or flue is raised from the burner for the cleaning, trimming, and lighting of the lamp, the lamp or burner e is removed from the lantern a through the sliding door c, and the glass chimney g is connected to the metal extension h by a screw clamp or other fastening i, the compound chimney being hinged to the reflector holder k by a curved or cranked arm j so that the chimney can be swung right over the top of the detachable reflector f. When the arm is in an intermediate position, its movement is stiffened and the chimney may be supported, as indicated by the dotted lines, by the pressure of a spring n in the slotted head m of the standard k upon lugs j<3> on the arm. The spring n serves also to hold the chimney down upon the burner gallery to prevent rattling. Clips on the back of the reflector f slide upon the standard k, the position of the reflector relatively to the burner being determined by stops.
