Реферат: A cementitious material for bonding refractory particles comprises finely-divided dead-burned magnesia and a minor proportion of sodium phospho-aluminate. A specified mix contains 86,25 to 98,75% by weight of the dead-burned magnesia, 0,5 to 10% by weight of sodium phospho-aluminate, 0,25 to 1,25% by weight of trisodium orthophosphate and 0,5 to 2,5% by weight of sodium carbonate. At least 50%, preferably 65% of the magnesia passes through a 200 mesh U.S. Standard Sieve, whilst the remaining ingredients are ground separately or together to approximately minus 30 mesh. Suitable granular refractory materials for admixture with the cementitious material to form a refractory composition are: magnesia, brick grog, alumina, silica, silicon carbide and calcined fireclay. The refractory composition, which preferably contains 20 to 40% by weight of the cementitious material, is tempered with water, shaped and allowed to set, the strength being further increased, if desired, by heating for 2 to 24 hours at temperatures up to 265 DEG F.
