In a device for determining the tensile stress in straps, belts and the like, whose components carry out a relative movement which is proportional to load and which changes their relative separation via a measuring spring arrangement in proportion to an engaging load, having a housing part and a pair of tension brackets each standing away from this on both sides in the tension direction, said brackets having at their free ends connecting bolts in mutually facing aligned holes for coupling lashing means, it is proposed that the housing part (100) is designed to be open, without walls on its longitudinal sides extending in the tension direction (180), and that the tension brackets (104a, 104b) are loosely laid in the housing part (100) with their cross-webs (105a, 105b) back to back to the first cross-wall (111) of the housing part (100) and the measuring spring arrangement is loosely inserted between the cross-webs of the tension bracket (104b) and the second cross-wall (112) of the housing part (100) (see Fig. 12). <IMAGE>
