As illustrated the tool is cartridge actuated, and comprises a fastener magazine 98 in which fasteners are fed automatically to the driving position. The lever 74 has a bifurcated end 78 and extends through a slot 82 in cylinder wall 14. A buffer pad 90 of polyurethane or nylon is provided.

Abstract A tool for driving nails into hard surfaces wherein the driving power is provided by cartridges of explosive powder. The cartridges are con-tained in strips with a single strip containing a multiple of cartridges, in the order of ten. The improvement comprises the mechanism for feeding the strip of cartridges in increments automatically through the tool and for re-taining the tool piston in its ready to be fired position. The feeding of the cartridges is accomplished by a camming finger connected to the barrel of the tool which progressively engages successive following lugs on the strip to move successive cartridges of the strip into place within the firing cham-ber as the tool is repeatedly engaged and disengaged with a work surface. A ring having a double loop configuration frictionally grips the piston to re-sist accidental displacement.

A powder-actuated tool for driving fasteners, such as drive pins, into concrete, masonry, or steel workpieces comprises a tool body having a sleeve, a barrel extending forwardly from the tool body, a firing pin mounted operatively in the tool body and movable therein between a dormant position and a firing position, and a manually operable trigger for latching the firing pin releasably and for releasing the firing pin when the trigger is actuated with the firing pin in the dormant position. When moved to an actuated position with the firing pin in the dormant position and latched releasably, a spring-loading element extending backwardly from the sleeve manually loads a spring compressively, so as to bias the firing pin toward the firing position.
