This invention is directed to a process for applying a symbol to a molded device which symbol on the molded device is visible as an indentation in the surface of the device. The process involves the step of applying the symbol as an elevation to the mold before using the mold for making the molded device. The process of the invention is characterized in that the elevation on the mold is produced by applying a material to the mold surface which material is liquid when being applied and which material is applied at a temperature higher than the temperature which is at or preferably below the melting point of the material, and which material solidifies at the temperature of the mold. The material applied to the mold and solidified on the mold surface as an elevation needs to remain solid during the process of using the mold for making the molded device. During the molding process the elevation of the symbol on the mold is transferred as an indentation of the symbol to the surface of the molded device. After the molding process is complete and the molded device has been separated from the mold the elevation on the mold surface can be removed and the mold can be re-used without an elevation or with another elevation being applied to make another molded device.

A device for marking a work piece that is at least partially formed or reshaped through a thermal process is provided. The device includes a plurality of heating elements distributed laterally on a surface that is placed against the work piece and can be individually controlled for local heating of a work piece surface. Each of the heating elements includes a solid material with a surface structure and a heating structure. The surface structure includes at least one of a specifically or randomly varied topography. The surface structure can be at least partially heated through the heating structure.

A procedure for repairing a polymer matrix composite component is provided. The procedure includes the steps of: providing a polymer matrix composite component having a site prepared for repair by removal of damaged or defective material; locating an uncured, polymer matrix composite repair patch at the site to re-build the component thereat; and curing the polymer matrix of the repair patch by heating the patch using eddy currents induced by one or more alternating current coils. The repair patch is without metallic additives, such that the repaired polymer matrix composite after the curing step is also without metallic additives in the vicinity of the repair patch. 1. A procedure for repairing a polymer matrix composite component , the procedure comprising:providing a polymer matrix composite component having a site prepared for repair by removal of damaged or defective material;locating an uncured, polymer matrix composite repair patch at the site to re-build the component thereat; andcuring the polymer matrix of the repair patch by heating the patch using eddy currents induced by one or more alternating current coils, including a process of determining a desired maximum temperature of the patch and a desired penetration depth of the electromagnetic field produced by the one or more alternating current coils, and using said desired maximum temperature and said desired penetration depth to determine corresponding values of amp-turns and frequency which are then applied to the, or each, coil in the curing process;wherein the repair patch is without metallic additives, such that the repaired polymer matrix composite after the curing step is also without metallic additives in the vicinity of the repair patch.2. The invention includes methods and apparatus for demolding a tread from a mold. In particular embodiments, such methods include a step of demolding a first end of a tread from a mold to form a demolded portion of the tread, the tread extending lengthwise from the first end to a second end. A further step includes folding the tread such that at least a portion of the demolded portion is arranged overtop a portion of the tread remaining within the mold. Yet a further step includes applying lubricant to the tread to thereby lubricate relative translation between folded portions of the tread.
