The invention provides load-resisting segments (e.g., panels or frames for openings) for transmitting loads through a building structure. In the context of a wall, the load-resisting segments transmit shear loads downward to structural elements below the wall, such as to a building foundation. The load-resisting segments may comprise a truss configuration, i.e., an assembly of members forming a rigid framework. Each load-resisting segment can include web members and pairs of truss plates secured to sides of the segment to secure connections of the web members to each other and to other members. The wall segments can include beam-separation blocks that reduce truss plate failure by spacing apart the ends of two web members bearing against a chord or post to position the intersection point of the load paths of the web members with the load path of the chord or post.

A cross-brace for connection to a pair of parallel conventional joists comprises elongate brace members assembled to form a X-shaped array, with a pair of vertical reinforcement members extending between outer ends of the brace members. The brace members and reinforcement members are connected to one another and, when the cross-brace is assembled with the joists, the reinforcement members abut mutually opposed sides of the joists. When I-beams are employed, the outer ends of the brace members and the opposite ends of the reinforcement members cooperate to form right-angled notches for snugly receiving longitudinal beam members, which are interconnected in pairs by web members against which the reinforcement members abut. The web members are connected by dovetail joints to the beam members instead of simply being inserted in a conventional manner into slots in the beam members.

A joist bridge has a web extending between a pair of end members. The web has a straight edge and an edge having a central indentation. The indentation provides a space through which plumbing pipes, electrical conduits and wiring and the like can be run. The joist bridge is economical of material and is therefore relatively inexpensive to manufacture. An adhesive strip may be provided along the top of the joist bridge to bond the joist bridge to the flooring above.

The rails have elongated slots for receiving and retaining connectors of the brackets. For staircase arrangements, the upper rail further includes an upper elongated slot for receiving step supports, and at least two paired top-bottom rails are positioned laterally for a step to be secured to upper surfaces of the laterally-adjacent step supports. The base (4) of the shuttering is a rectangular parallelepiped in shape and has a trapezoidal section cavity.
