The cord is attached to a location adjacent a lower end of the material, and extends upward through cord guides toward the headrail. The cord is encased within a collapsible shroud attached to each cord guide. The shroud is adapted to longitudinally extend as the shading material is lowered toward a deployed position, and then longitudinally collapse as the shading material is raised toward a stowed position. The cord is secured to and is wound about a spring-loaded roller. The roller provides tension on the cord that counterbalances the weight of the shade so that the shading material may be positioned at any desired level.

Self-Cleaning Window Blinds with Photocatalytic Material

We disclose a self-cleaning window blind which includes a thin layer of photocatalytic material on at least one surface of the slats. The window blind includes an ultraviolet light source which directs ultraviolet light onto the photocatalytic material. Consequently, the window blind is not dependent on available sunlight. The ultraviolet light source may be located in either the headrail or the bottom rail of the window blinds. Upon exposure to ultraviolet light, organic material on the slats which may include dust, grease, or microorganisms, may be converted to carbon dioxide and water. One or both of the horizontal edges of the slats may include a lip which may collect water formed by the photocatalytic reaction. In some embodiments, the slats are slightly convex. This shape may inhibit water from collecting in droplets on the slat and help direct the water towards the lip. Consequently, water spots are not created on the slats.

A horizontal blind structure includes a blind rail, more than one slat control unit and more than one cord winding unit. The slat control unit includes a fixing seat and a control polygonal drum received in the fixing seat and a cord restriction seat. The control polygonal drum is connected with a ladder belt. An engaging unit mounted on a head beam of a blind is provided. The engaging unit includes a spring holder, extension spring, sliding holder, pull cord and pull cord holder. Two ends of the extension spring are hooked to the spring holder and sliding holder, respectively. An engaging portion of the pull cord holder engages with the head beam. The pull cord has one end disposed at a cord fastening portion of the pull cord holder and the other end wound around a first cord-winding portion of the sliding holder and a second cord-winding portion of the pull cord holder by predetermined journeys. The sliding holder slides to and fro on the head beam in response to the pull cord's ascent and descent and the extension spring's extension and contraction. A blind with the engaging unit is further provided and includes a head beam, blind body and bottom beam.
