Noise attenuator and vehicle air intake duct provided therewith

A noise attenuator which can reduce time and cost for installation thereof as compared with the conventional configuration and a vehicle air intake duct provided with the noise attenuator are provided. The noise attenuator includes a pair of circular through holes formed through a duct wall, a pair of wave transmitting/receiving membrane which are stretched so as to close the circular through holes, and a seesaw member which connects between central portions of the paired transmitting/receiving membranes. Accordingly, when one of the membranes receives a sound wave of noise thereby to be vibrated at a predetermined frequency, the other membrane follows it and is also vibrated while shifted by a half cycle. As a result, a cancellation wave with a phase opposite to the sound wave received by the one membrane is transmitted from the other membrane, whereupon the noise can be attenuated.

An air duct of an internal combustion engine has an inner pipe providing a flow channel and a housing with a first housing part and a second housing part, wherein the inner pipe is arranged in the housing. The first housing part and the second housing part enclose a chamber between the inner pipe and the housing. The inner pipe has at least one section with perforations in a wall of the inner pipe, wherein the perforations completely penetrate the wall of the inner pipe. A cylindrical acoustic component at least partially encloses the at least one section of the inner pipe at an outer side of the inner pipe. A wall of the cylindrical acoustic component is provided, at least in sections thereof, with continuous openings. The flow channel is acoustically connected via the perforations and via the continuous openings to the chamber.

When the insert ( 30 ) is disposed in the compressor air inlet, an air recirculation path ( 20 ) is defined between the inner member outer surface, an inner surface ( 17 ) of the air inlet, and the lugs. A vibration isolation or noise attenuation and fluid sealing system, for use in connection with internal combustion engine components. For example, for use in the mounting of a valve cover or rocker arm cover upon a cylinder block or cylinder head, or for the mounting of an oil pan cover upon an oil pan housing. The system has an isolation medium or member mechanically and/or chemically bonded to a peripheral flange portion of the cover member. A sealing flange member is chemically and/or mechanically bonded to the isolation member or medium. The three components being a one-piece unitary cover assembly. The fluid leakage along the interfaces defined between the three components is effectively eliminated. The one-piece assembly is secured to the cylinder block or head, or the oil pan housing, by shoulder bolt fasteners. The fasteners exert compressive forces upon the isolation member so as to vary the stiffness and frequency characteristics thereof. Thus, fine tuning of the stiffness can effectively absorb, dampen, and dissipate noise and vibration.

A method for manufacturing a resonator is disclosed in which a sleeve insert is placed into a fixture within a blow molding apparatus. The sleeve insert has a wall with a first plurality of apertures in the wall at a first axial distance and a second plurality of apertures in the wall at a second axial distance. A parison is slid over the sleeve insert; the mold is clamped over the parison causing the parison to press into the sleeve insert at three locations: near the ends of the sleeve insert and at a location between the pluralities of apertures; and air is blown into the sleeve insert, via a blow pin, to expand the parison into the walls of the mold to form cavities proximate the first and second pluralities of aperatures. After cooling, the mold opens to release the newly formed resonator.

An inner pipe is accommodated in the box shaped member, and includes a fluid passage formed therein. A separation is provided in the inner pipe which communicates the fluid passage with the inner space. The inner pipe can include a first tubular member, a part thereof formed integrally with the body by injection molding, and a second tubular member having an end. The end is disposed in the inner space so as to face an end of the first tubular member in spaced relation so as to form the separation. A guide and a fixing member can be formed on an inner wall surface of the body so as to connect the inner pipe with the communication port.
