This is a system and apparatus for precisely mounting a ring shroud to a motor vehicle cooling system and engine. A cooling fan subassembly is mounted to an engine and ring shroud subassembly containing fan braces that are mounted to the engine via mounting brackets. A mounting gap tool is inserted through apertures in the ring shroud to prescribe the radial and axial clearance between the ring shroud and the cooling fan subassembly. Once the ring shroud and cooling fan assembly are aligned to predetermined specifications for clearance, the installer secures all the fasteners in the mounting brackets and retrieves any or all the mounting gap tools. 1. A fan assembly and gap tool for motor vehicle cooling system comprising:an engine;a fan motor;a cooling fan;at least three mounting brackets;a ring shroud;at least three fan braces;wherein the fan motor is mounted to the engine, the cooling fan is mounted to the fan motor, each of the at least three fan braces is affixed to the ring shroud;each of the at least three mounting brackets having one end and an opposite end with each of the at least three mounting brackets being mounted to the engine at the one end and loosely mounted to one of the at least three fan braces at the opposite end; anda plurality of gap tools for aligning the ring shroud to the cooling fan before securing the at least three mounting brackets to the at least three fan braces.2. A method for providing an axial gap in a cutter assembly of a grinder pump in order to secure an operative shearing action at a shearing interface in the cutter assembly. A grinder pump includes a cutter wheel connected to and driven in rotation by a drive shaft. The cutter wheel includes a set of cutting edges, and a cutter disc stationary connected to a pump housing and having a central hole and a set of cutting holes. The drive shaft and the cutter wheel are interconnected via the central hole of the cutter disc, wherein the cutter wheel and the cutter disc constitute the cutter assembly. The invention provides for the protection of internal surfaces vulnerable to wear from such particles by providing means for adjusting and controlling distribution of gland fluid for flushing vulnerable areas. The invention extends to a method and a retrofit kit, but provides primarily for a centrifugal pump assembly comprising an impeller rotatably mounted therein and support means operatively arranged for supporting the impeller from its suction side in sealing relationship with the housing. The sealing means may be mechanically adjustable for substantially even distribution of gland fluid to both axial sides of the impeller in the pump housing.

An improved device for adjusting the running clearance of a pump impeller is shown and described. In a preferred embodiment, an annular adjustment member is positioned adjacent to a pump impeller and the pump housing, the impeller being spaced from the adjustment member and housing by a predetermined distance. The adjustment member is selectively moved towards and away from the impeller, and lockable in any desired position. The adjustment member is moved in an axial direction by loosening a plurality of clamp nuts, and turning adjustment nuts until the annular adjustment member bottoms out on the impeller. The annular adjustment member is then backed off until an end surface of the adjustment member is spaced from the end surface of the impeller by the predetermined distance. The adjustment member is locked in the new location, thereby resetting the running clearance of the pump. The annular adjustment member includes an elastomeric member that creates a dynamic seal in a radial direction, the adjustment member being accessible and usable during operation of the pump.
