Under a third light condition of fogginess a signal may be sent to one electromagnet to position the slide at the first position with no signal being sent to the second electromagnet. Under a fourth light condition of standard lighting no signals may be sent to both electromagnets. Another vehicle camera has first and second filters and an electromagnet to actuate a slide between a first and second position.

The phosphor or quantum dot characteristics are selected so that the white light substantially matches an ambient light setting in the camera, such as the incandescent ambient light setting. Therefore, when a flash picture is taken under incandescent ambient light, and the flash emits the same type of light as the incandescent light, the flash will effectively brighten the incandescent light. The camera's color compensation algorithm (71) associated with incandescent light illumination is then applied to the photograph and works optimally since the object is only illuminated by incandescent light. This concept is expanded to LED flashes that emulate other types of ambient light having associated color compensation algorithms programmed into the camera.

A flash modulation control apparatus in a camera having a photo-taking lens and a flash device mounted thereon comprises a photographing mode setting device for setting a photographing mode in which optimal exposure is obtained in conformity with an object, a divisional photometry device for dividing the object field into a plurality of areas, metering through the photo-taking lens light emitted from the flash device and reflected by the object, and outputting photometric values, a weighting device for determining an amount of weighting for each of the photometry areas of the divisional photometry device in conformity with the photographing mode set by the photographing mode setting device, and weighting each of the photometric values on the basis of the amount of weighting, and a light modulation control device for stopping the light emission of the flash device when the sum total of the weighted photometric values reaches a predetermined level.

A digital camera ( 10 ) includes a face detecting section ( 74 ), a color temperature detecting section ( 76 ) and a flash device ( 86 ) having an LED array in which RGB LEDs are regularly arranged as a light source. When a shutter button ( 18 ) is pressed halfway, the face detecting section ( 74 ) reads out image data of a through image from a memory ( 60 ) and detects a person's face in the image. A CPU ( 64 ) identifies a scene based on brightness values of face and surrounding areas as, for example, a backlit scene, and specifies a face peripheral area according to an exposure pattern corresponding to the backlit scene. When the shutter button ( 18 ) is fully pressed, the CPU ( 64 ) sends a flash projection command to an LED control circuit ( 87 ), thereby illuminating the LEDs corresponding to the face peripheral area. By controlling illumination of the RGB LEDs, the LED control circuit ( 87 ) directs to project the flash light having color temperature that corrects the person's face color into an appropriate skin color.
