A facsimile transmission system is used to transmit documents over telephone lines using an electronic mail system, which may be a localized system or a distributed electronic mail system. Transmission is initiated by the sending facsimile machine transmitting a mark sense cover sheet, which has a mark sense identifier printed on it, to a facsimile controller. The controller checks for the presence of the mark sense identifier and if present, the controller reads the identifying information and destination address coded thereon. The controller then transmits the identifying information and destination address and the subsequently received document facsimile data to the electronic mail system in digital form, for retransmission back through the same or a different controller to one or more receiving facsimile machines.

A data forwarding system allows receivers with limited capabilities to receive information that was transmitted in a format which the user could not otherwise receive. For example, a receiver which does not include a fax modem may receive faxes which are transmitted to a station. In addition, transactions which occur at a variety of sites may be transmitted to a remote station which then forwards the information about the transactions to the user's receiver. Image bitmaps are determined by processing the image descriptions, each image bitmap including an array of image pixels. The image bitmaps are stored in an array of digital storage devices, with different portions of the image bitmaps being stored in different digital storage devices, where an allocation table is used to indicate where each portion is stored. When one of the digital storage devices fails, the allocation table is analyzed to determine which portions of the image bitmaps were stored in the failed digital storage device. The lost portions are re-rendered by processing corresponding portions of the image descriptions, and the re-rendered portions are stored in the array of digital storage devices. 1. Methods and apparatus are described for receiving a fax transmission at a mobile phone. In one embodiment, the mobile phone receives an incoming call and answers the incoming call, upon receiving a command from a user of the mobile phone to answer the incoming call. A program on the mobile phone then detects that the incoming call is a fax transmission, and then places an outgoing call to a fax server. The program on the mobile phone then conferences the incoming call with the outgoing call to the fax server, such that the fax server receives the fax transmission. An image forming apparatus comprising an operation panel and hardware resources used for image formation including a scanner engine, an application, and a platform that exists between the application and the hardware resources, the platform including an OS and at least one control service to control an execution of each requested processing of the hardware resources according to a function call from the application, wherein interprocess communication is performed between the control service and the application, the application causing the image forming apparatus to function as: a display part configured to display a selection screen for selecting a transfer destination of scanned data from among a plurality of transfer destinations on the operation panel; a scanning process part configured to cause the scanner engine to scan a document to produce scanned data; a transfer part configured to transfer the scanned data to one or more selected transfer destinations; and a print process part configured to receive the scanned data from a storing area of the selected transfer destination and print the scanned data. Methods and systems for an auditing infrastructure for an Internet fax service architecture are provided. According to one embodiment, information regarding an event, associated with a component of the Internet fax service architecture, that is to be logged, is received by a centralized audit logging module of the Internet fax service architecture. The component may be a web server, an email server, a fax server, a notification server or an imaging system. The information is utilized by the centralized audit logging module to determine specific parameters within the Internet fax service architecture to be logged. Finally, the event, including the information and the specific parameters, is recorded by the centralized audit logging module to an audit log associated with the Internet fax service architecture in a standardized format. 1. A method comprising:receiving, by a centralized audit logging module associated with an Internet fax system, from a component of the Internet fax system, information regarding an event associated with the component, that is to be logged separate and distinct from a record of inbound or outbound fax calls available for presentation to subscribers of the Internet fax system;retrieving, by the centralized audit logging module, one or more specific parameters to be logged from one or more sources of information within the Internet fax system based on the event;recording, by the centralized audit logging module, the event to an audit log maintained by the centralized audit logging module in a standardized format by creating an audit log entry, incorporating the information and the one or more specific parameters within the audit log entry and storing the audit log entry within the audit log; andfacilitating, by the centralized audit logging module, auditing of security or compliance of the Internet fax system by a subscriber of the Internet fax system, by responsive to receiving a request to retrieve information from the audit log initiated ...
