A cooking appliance exhibits a heating element (4) and a detector device for detecting a container (6) placed on top. In order to make possible automatic switching on of the heating element (4) when a metal container (6) is placed on it, the detector device is equipped with an a.c.-operated magnetic field transmitter (7, 9), which is placed at a distance below the boiling area (10) and generates a magnetic field directed towards the boiling area (10). In order to increase the response sensitivity for detecting containers (6) of non-ferrous metals between the boiling area (10) and the magnetic field transmitter (7, 9), a loop (21) lying in the external boundary area of the a.c. field is arranged, which is periodically short-circuited. Erfindungsgemäß ist die Entlastungsöffnung im Gargerätedeckel (5) vorgesehen.

In a heat storage apparatus having a storage core (3) which is arranged in an apparatus housing (1) and is surrounded by a heat insulation, a centrifugal blower is situated in a space laterally next to the storage core (3). Its blow-out connection piece (8) is connected to an air distribution duct (28) which runs beneath the storage core (3), passes upwards into discharge air ducts (36, 12) and horizontally, via a bypass flap (29), into an air-mixing chamber (25). In a heat storage oven, a heating element 6 is arranged in a recess 5 of a storage core 2. The recess 5 runs essentially parallel to a large side wall 8 of the heat storage oven and is bent at one end and led out towards the side wall 8. The heating element 6 has a heating coil carrier, on which the heating coil is wound and which is built up of individual bounded members, displaceable relative to each other. To obtain a secure arrangement of the heating element 6 in the recess 5, a rigid connection end 9 is fitted to the heating coil carrier and reaches as far as the longitudinal axis of the main portion of the recess 5.
