Processes for preferred branching, especially monomethyl branched or non-nucleated dimethyl-branched surfactants used in cleaning products include special combinations of two or more flotation separation steps, and more preferably special alkylation steps; such processes include some modified alkylbenzenes, modified alkylbenzenesulfonate surfactants, and consumer cleaning products containing these substances, particularly products containing laundry detergents. Preferred processes in this invention more particularly use non-traditional special sequences of impregnation steps for fixing some of the branched hydrocarbon fractions used as alkylating agents for subsequent processing steps and for other useful surfactant construction purposes. Surprisingly, these fractions can even be derived from materials derived from the linear production of linear alkylbenzene.
