In one embodiment, a cutting guide has a base with a flat lower surface for resting the cutting guide on an upper surface of a work piece. Extending down from the front of the base is an abutment member that aligns the base with a front surface of the work piece. A fence is installed on the upper surface of one side of the base to guide a cutting instrument across the work piece. A kick-up preventer extends from the top of the fence away from the base to prevent the cutting instrument from kicking-up during operation. On the other side of the base, a tape measure is mounted on the upper surface such that the tape extends away from the fence, and a measurement-securing assembly is mounted in front of the tape measure to secure the tape measure at a desired measurement.

An important aspect of the invention is that the substrate is formed from a flexible resilient material that allows the device to folded or rolled up into a relatively compact volume. Another important aspect of the invention is that it includes one or more bumps that project upwardly from the plane of the elongated substrate that enable the user to hold the fish head firmly against, yet do not prevent the fish measurement device from being rolled or folded. The ability to hold a fish against a bump enables relatively accurate measurements to be taken.

The tape measure end piece has a rounded bottom, a straight tongue, and a pair of front round tabs. The straight tongue allows the present invention to be attached to the blade of a measuring tape via a plurality of rivet holes to the rivets situated on the blade of the measuring tape. The plurality of rivet holes allows the position of the end piece to be adjustable along the end of the tape measure. The rounded bottom of the present invention allows the present invention and the end of the measure tape to travel over uneven surfaces at a distance. The pair of front round tabs allows the present invention to be hooked onto objects at a distance during measurement.

A method for measuring an antler rack having a plurality of beams includes the steps of providing a flexible measuring tape that includes a front surface having graduated indicia printed thereon and a rear surface having an adhesive layer. A free end of the measuring tape is positioned at the tip of a selected beam of the antler rack and the tape extended to a terminal point/end of the tape. The measuring tape is severed at the terminal point so as to determine a length of the selected beam. Then, the severed portion is adhered to the selected beam to indicate that the selected beam has been measured. These steps are repeated until all beams have been measured and respective severed portions have been adhered to the antler rack. The adhered portions are then viewed and the highest numerical graduation indicates the score of the antler.

Embodiments of a marking device are disclosed and described herein. The marking device of the various embodiments is configured for attaching to a tape measure, such as a tape measure which recoils within a housing. In one embodiment, the marking mechanism includes ink for marking the surface, whereas in another, alternate embodiment, the marking mechanism includes a scraper or other type of structure for marking the surface without the use of a chemical.
