The present invention discloses a cyclic compound of formula (I) and a process of preparation thereof. The present invention further discloses a process for the preparation of compound of formula (II) preferably Hunanamycin A from compound of formula (I). 2. A process for the preparation of compound of formula (I) as claimed in claim 1 , wherein said process comprising the steps of:c) heating the basic solution of Riboflavin at temperature ranging from 80 to 90° C. for the time period ranging from 1 to 2 h followed by adding oxidizing agent and stiffing resultant mixture at the temperature ranging from 25 to 30° C. for the time period ranging from 10 to 12 hrs to afford dione compound (2);d) stiffing the reaction mixture of compound of step (a), base and alkylating agent in solvent at the temperature ranging from 25 to 30° C. for the time period ranging from 10 to 12 hrs to obtain compound of formula (I).4.
