The fluid flow meter includes a flexible membrane clamped between upstream and downstream centering springs to enhance membrane behavior and extend the fluid flow measurement range by automatically adaptively moving the apparent clamping points in response to flow rate. Adaptation of the clamping span alters the relative effective excess membrane length within the clamping span to adapt membrane behavior to flow rate. The upstream centering spring includes a long leaf spring pair cantilevered into the clamping span from the clamping region. The long leaf spring pair is sandwiched within a shorter leaf spring pair active at higher flow rates and formed as part of a guide extending to the chamber surface. The membrane ends are narrowed upstream and downstream of the clamping span to reduce flutter while the upstream intake is split into even laminar flows. A main screw feeder having a main screw housing set at an incline from the base of a bin. The main screw housing has two outlets, the advanced outlet and the recycle outlet. The advance outlet communicates with a metering screw housing in which twin screws of identical pitch are rotated in synchronous, intermeshed revolution. The delivery outlet for the metering screw housing communicates with the processing stages. The recycle outlet is positioned at an elevation higher than the advance outlet and discharges to the bin. A flow measuring device measures the return flow of granulated or powdered material expelled from the recycle outlet. The flow measuring device projects a prestressed cable into the recycle path of the return flow. A device for measuring any deflection of the cable and fluctuations in the tension thereon produce a signal which is a function of the return flow and which is used to control the speed of the main screw feeder.

During operation, the output frequency of the measuring device is utilized to index into all of the tables and compare the differential pressure stored in the tables with the actual measured differential pressure. A novel, low-friction, low-inertia flexible diaphragm containing a magnet formed as an integral part of the diaphragm is mounted in a chamber (preferably cylindrical). The chamber comprises part of the flow meter in a flow control system. One or more sensing devices are mounted on the walls of the chamber to sense the instantaneous position of the diaphragm. A novel electronic control circuit processes the data from the one or more sensing devices to provide measures of the flow rate during the displacement of the diaphragm along the cylinder. Signals are generated by the electronic control circuitry for switching a pair of three-way valves (one valve comprising the input valve and the other valve comprising the output valve) such that during one-half of a cycle the intput valve transfers fluid into the cylinder on one side of the diaphragm and, during the other half of the cycle, transfers fluid into the cylinder on the other side of the diaphragm. The output valve is switched synchronously with the input valve to transmit fluid from the other side or one side of the diaphragm to the output valve. The electronic control system includes means for amplifying the output signals from the one or more sensing devices ("sensors") to provide one or more signals representing the position of the diaphragm as a function of time, means for converting the output signals from these amplifiers to digital form, and computation means for operating on the digitized output signals from the sensing devices to provide control signals for controlling a second input valve thereby to control the flow rate of the fluid being metered to within a desired range.

A movable bellows (14) is fitted in ther inner chamber (13) of a fixed housing (10). One end is connected to one wall (11) of the housing and the free end is connected liquid tight to a base (15). Two pipe lines (18,21) are respectively connected to the two chambers (13,16) so formed, as well as respectively to two outlets (22,23) for the liquid. They are connected across two, three way valves (25) to give two positions so that in each switching position respectively the supply of one chamber is connected to the input line and the discharge of the other chamber is connected to the outlet line. The bellows is fitted at the top wall of the housing suspended so that it can move in a vertical direction. Both chambers are designed with conically tapered bases.

A flowmeter pressure regulator for gaseous or liquid fluids is used to measure fuel flow in motor vehicle. A pulse counter connected to a piston shaft enables flow measurement to be indicated. Fuel flowing in a channel (101) flows via an electrically operated inlet valve (150) to a reference chamber (110) and then to an electrically operated outlet valve (160). Valves are normally open when no power is applied to the terminals (100, 102). Movement of the piston (116) in the reference chamber causes switching (132) of the supply to inlet and outlet valves to allow flow in known quantities measured by a counter on the piston shaft.

One of the lines in a second pair communicates with the input line and the second compartment and the other line in the second pair communicates with the first compartment and the output line. An apparatus and method for controlling the flow of a process material from a higher pressure environment to a lower pressure environment is provided. Each of a first and second chamber is divided into a product region and a control region by a flexible boundary. Inlet and outlet flow control devices provide fluid communication between each product region and a material input line and a material output line, respectively. A chamber control device is arranged to provide fluid communication between the control region of each chamber, which is filled with a non-compressible fluid. As product fills the product region of one chamber, fluid is displaced from the corresponding control region and into the control region of the other chamber. As the control region of the other chamber expands, product is forced out of the corresponding product region and into the material output line. The product region of each chamber is alternately filled and emptied to produce a continuous transport of material.

Class 106(5) Metering mechanism for liquids consists of a chamber having two metering compartments 10a, 10b, Fig. 1, with an inlet 20a and an outlet 22a connected to each compartment, two spaced flexible diaphragms 12, 12a so arranged that liquid forced into one compartment expels liquid from the other, and valve means 37 arranged to admit liquid under pressure to each of the compartments alternatively and at the same time to release liquid from the other of the compartments. With the valve in the position shown, liquid flows from the inlet 20a to a pipe 15b communicating through ports 13 with the chamber 10b and from the chamber 10a, a pipe 15a and ports 43, 44 to the outlet 22a. When the valve is displaced to the right, the inlet 20a is connected to the pipe 15a via the space between sealing rings 40, 41 and the pipe 15b is connected to the outlet 22a via the space between sealing rings 41, 42. The space between the diaphragm 12a, 12 communicating through a port 32 with a cylinder 30 having a plunger 34 in adjustable screw-threaded engagement with the cylinder. Adjustment of the plunger varies the quantity of liquid between the two diaphragms and hence the capacity of the measuring chambers. The spherical radius of the diaphragms may be less than-that of the measuring chambers so that the diaphragm first contacts the chamber .around its edges to ensure complete discharge of the liquid. Small radial ribs or grooves may also be formed on or in the wall of the diaphragm or the chamber to facilitate discharge.

The present invention refers to a PIG or sphere passage detection and signaling device on a conduit, in order to signal automatically the passage of said PIG or the sphere at a specific point of a conduit. The PIG or sphere passage detection device comprises: a housing (11); a cylindrical body (12) mounted concentrically on said housing and which delimits, by means of a wall (15), an upper cavity (14) and a lower cavity (13); wherein a rod (17) is mounted concentrically to slide into said lower cavity (13) which comprises, on one side, a piston (18) and, on the other side, a driving means (19); and wherein a second rod (21) is mounted concentrically to slide into said upper cavity (14) which comprises, on one side, a rod (31) which extends to a signaling device (30) and, on the other side, a second driving means (22).

Device (1) to regulate the passage of gas, of the type suitable for being completely inserted and housed inside the casing (2) of a single gas meter (3) capable of managing a maximum gas flow rate equal to or greater than 16 m 3 /h, in order to intercept, at least in part, the gas flow at the gas inlet (5) in said meter and/or at the gas outlet (4) in/from said meter, said device comprising: - a connecting element (11) which is provided with an opening configured to be fluidically connectable, preferably sealed, with said gas inlet (5) and/or with said gas outlet (4) in/from said meter (3), and which is also provided with at least two passages (14) fluidically connected, in parallel with each other, to said opening, - at least two valves (12) fluidically arranged in parallel with each other, each of said at least two valves (12) being mounted in correspondence with one of said at least two passages (14) and being provided with an electric actuator (17) configured to cause the opening/closing of the corresponding valve, - an electronic apparatus (20) which is electronically connected with the actuator (17) of each valve (12) to control the movement of said actuator, and therefore the opening/closing of the corresponding valve, said electronic apparatus (20) comprising an electronic control unit (21) which is configured to command and time the opening/closing of said at least two valves (12) and characterized in that: - said connecting element (11) is configured to support said at least two valves (12) in a suspended condition inside the meter (3), and - each of said at least two valves (12) is an interception valve having a passage section of about 250-400 mm 2 .
