Method and press for producing a saucer-type metallic sealing membrane

Method of producing a saucer-type metallic sealing membrane with large dimensions from a sheet metal plate which is bent in a press, in which a sealing strip with a continuous groove directed away from the membrane body is applied to the peripheral edge of the bent workpiece, characterised by the following shaping stages which essentially follow one another in the press : - in a first stage the sheet metal plate is bent into the saucer shape and - in a second stage the corresponding peripheral edge sections are thickened to form the sealing strip by a combined compression and cutting operation, and at the same time the continuous groove is formed in these thickened peripheral edge sections.
