Improvements in tire building machine
219,799. Hermann, W. H. July 4, 1923. Tyres, elastic, special apparatus for making.- A machine for building tyre covers comprises means for moving any one of a series of stockrolls, with its associated fabric guiding and iensioning devices into alignment with a rotary core. The machine shown has two fabric-supply means 7, 8, each comprising a stock roll 54 and take-up roll 55, guiding and tensioning rolls 56, 57, respectively, and a spreader-roll 76 for smoothing- out the fabric before application of the core, 9. The devices 7, 8 are mounted on standards on a bed 6 which is adjusted with respect to the core by means of a threaded spindle 18 engaging a nut 20 on the underside of the bed. The spindle 18 is actuated from a power shaft through a twoway clutch which is automatically moved into its neutral position when the supply device is aligned with the core. To prevent displacement of the stock rolls 54, rollers 68 bearing on the edges of the rolls are angularly adjustable on arms 66 which are positioned by means of a hand-wheel 69 and screw mechanism. The smoothing-roll 76 is carried between a pair of quadrant-racks 74 adjustable about the pivot 72. The racks 74 mesh with a hand-wheel 79, locking being effected by a gravity-pawl 80 on the bracket 71. To maintain proper alignment of the fabric, means may be provided for moving the smoothing-roll out of parallelism with the spindle 78.
