448,292. Electrically controlled locks. BROOKER, W. G. H., 2, Woodbine Grove, Penge, London, and CLOUGH, A. G., 12, Seward Road, Beckenham, Kent. March 28, 1935, No. 9721. [Class 44] [See also Group XXXVII] The sliding latch a<1> of a door is shot by a spring a<11> acting on a pivoted lever a<9> forming the armature of an electromagnet, one leg a<17> of which is extended to enter a hole a<18> in the armature, the latch being withdrawn by energizing the magnet by closing a keyoperated switch. The latches are particularly for use on railway carriage doors or suites of office doors which can be unlocked simultaneously by a master key. The latch tail has a slot a<3> engaged by two dowels on the cover plate and is additionally guided by ribs a<6> on the case. Two notches a<7> for engaging the lever a<9> enable the latch to be used either way up to adapt it for right and left-hand doors. A pin a<22> extending through a slot in the casing enables the latch to be withdrawn from the inside of the door, and a keyhole a<21> enables the lever a<9> to be moved by a key in emergency. The switch comprises a movable tongue d<4>, Fig. 5, movable by a key into contact with a fixed stud d<2> or two fixed contacts may be bridged by a sliding bolt and key-actuated lever-lock mechanism.
