[Also in Group XXX] In a packaging machine, a web 31 of thermoplastic material is fed intermittently from a roll to a heating and moulding device 24 which forms it into a series of interconnected opentopped containers,33 which are supported by an endless conveyer 22. The containers are filled in successionas they pass under mechanism 25, and a: second web 41 of thermoplastic material is then fed by mechanism 26 into contact with the flanges 35 of the containers and sealed thereto by mechanism 27, the completed packages being finally severed from the webs by a device 28. The conveyer 22 comprises a pair of spaced chains 62 passing over pairs of guide sprockets 54, 56, 58 and 60 and driven intermittently through chain and sprocket gearing and Geneva mechanism. The chains are interconnected by transverse slats 74 which engage between adjacent containers and pass over fixed guides 78 which support the side flanges 35.
