Improvements in or relating to radar directional antenna systems

[Also in Division H4] In a directional aerial for a radar system comprising a radiator and an associated reflector formed as a figure of revolution, separate drive means are provided for rotating and reciprocating the radiator and a coupler is provided to select either drive so that the aerial beam executes a conical scan or scans in a plane. The radiator is both pivoted and fed from a waveguide at a ball-joint 2 and is extended mechanically to a guide pin 3. On the guide pin slides a coupling piece 4 which is fitted at one end with a conical nose 13 and at the other with a bead 18, each capable of respective engagement in cones 12 and 17. One cone, 12, is rotated eccentrically by a motor 9 whilst the other, 17, is reciprocated by a link 16 containing a slot in which engages an eccentric pin driven by another motor 14. A third motor 8 drives the coupler 4 through a lost-motion coupling 7 and a rack-and-pinion 5, 6 to select the required radiator movement.
