1510311 Cabinets J W KITSON 20 Aug 1975 [21 Aug 1974 16 April 1975] 36685/74 and 15579/75 Heading A4B [Also in Division F2] A cabinet or similar item of furniture is fabricated from two rectangular frames (2, 3), Fig. 1 (not shown) arranged in spaced vertical planes and inter-connected at each side of the cabinet by inner and outer vertical end panels 4, 5, each frame being composed of four elongate frame members, viz: two upright elongate members 14 and two horizontal elongate members 22, the frame members being of channel cross-section, Fig. 4, and including grooves 20, 21 inwardly of side flanges 16, 17 to receive the edges of the end panels 4, 5, and the jointing of the frame members at the corners of each frame being effected by cutting away the inside flanges of the adjacent ends of the members, so that their bases 14 overlap, and introducing curable liquid plastics bonding agent 28 into the members to a depth such that a predetermined portion of each member is immersed in the liquid to interlock with the bonding agent when it hardens. By this means, the flanges are reinforced at the same time as the overlapping and abutting parts of the frame member ends are bonded. The flange portions 18, 19 which form the grooves 20, 21 may be either integral with the remainder of the flanges 16, 17, as shown, or may be separate sections (33, 35) Fig. 5 (not shown) held in place by the bonding agent 28. Preferably, a reinforcement member 24 of L-shape is fitted in the channel at each corner and secured by the bonding agent, a hole 34 in the member 24 ensuring it is locked to the bonding agent. The inner panels 4 are secured to each reinforcement member 24 by a screw entering a hole 29 in the member.
