Phosphors containing boron and rare-earth metals, and light sources incorporating the same

A phosphor comprising a material having a formula of AB3O6:Ce, Mn; wherein A is at least a rare-earth metal other than cerium and may be gadolinium, scandium, yttrium, lanthanum, samarium, terbium, lutetium and combinations thereof. Also shown is the method for making such a phosphor and a light souce comprising the phosphor.
