LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY DEVICE
PURPOSE: To maintain always a uniform gap by dispersing spacer pieces in a liquid crystal layer and sealing the cell in such a manner that the pressure therein is smaller than the atmospheric pressure. CONSTITUTION: Spacer pieces are uniformly dispersed within a liquid crystal by such a method beforehand coating and drying a soln. dispersed with spacer pieces on the inside surface of one substrate prior to assembling. At the same time, after, for example, liquid crystal sealing, the cell is allowed to stand for a fixed time at temp. high than oridinary temp. and sealing of the sealing hole is carried out while the cell is kept at that temp. so that the pressure in the cell at ordinary temp. is smaller than the atmospheric pressure. By this method, the decrease in the gap between the substrates is prevented by the spacer pieces and since the atmospheric pressure acts upon the part of a larger gap so as to make it smaller, the liquid crystal display element having always a uniform gap is obtained.
