PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve reproducing characteristics in magnetic domain expanded reproduction without applying an in-plane magnetic field by using an external magnetic field.

SOLUTION: This magneto-optical recording medium is provided with a recording layer 5 on which information is recorded, and a reproducing layer 3 from which information is read, and an auxiliary layer 4 is disposed between the recording layer 5 and the reproducing layer 3 in which perpendicular magnetization occurs at a room temperature, and in-plane magnetization occurs at a high temperature. The in-plane magnetization in the auxiliary layer 4 induces magnetic domain expansion on the reproducing layer 3. When the magnetic domain expansion is induced, the magnetic domain expansion of the reproducing layer 3 is progressed by a magnetic field from a recording layer 6 which is obtained by adding a leakage magnetic field to an external magnetic field, and thus reproducing signal amplitude close to saturation amplitude is obtained.
