The present invention relates to a remote metering system and an operating method thereof. To this end, the remote metering system according to the present invention includes: a second meter modem for collecting second metering data measured by a watt-hour meter on a consumer side; a first meter modem for collecting first metering data measured by a meter which measures the usage amount of at least one of water and gas on the consumer side and setting at least one second meter modem among a plurality of second meter modems as a parent node meter modem; and a data concentrating unit for receiving metering data including the first metering data and the second metering data from the parent node meter modem and transmitting the metering data to a remote metering server. Accordingly, the preset invention can perform remote metering of water and gas meters without a separate relay device and improve the efficiency of a battery to supply power to a water meter modem and a gas meter modem.
