[15]

The inking, in the case of multicolor printing, is

the upper face of said plates, thereby obtaining, after wiping the final surface of the plate, a printing free known defects concerning the color mixing and the smearing caused by the regiflage.

[50]

According to another feature of the invention, means are provided for cleaning the first and second cylinders, after passage in contact plates inked. According to another feature of the invention, the means for cleaning the first cylinder it the plate cylinder, consist of clearer rollers resting on each other and on the first cylinder, so as to discharge the ink on the first cylinder successively on the clearer rollers to achieve a cleaning of the first cylinder without mixing the different color which may be left on the first cylinder.

[51]

The invention also extends to the printing machines which are provided with the present device or similar device.

[52]

A device and a machine according to the invention are shown, by way of non-limiting example, on the accompanying drawings, in which:

[53]

Figure 1 represents, schematically, a machine a gravure printing full color according to the invention;

[54]

Figures 2, 3, 4 and 5 represent the successive modifications of the inking of plates as of wipes.

[55]

The machine, according to the invention, consists of a forme 1 on which are located a plurality of sectors which the sheets to be printed.

[56]

In Figure 1, the form cylinder 1 thus has two sectors 2 diametrically opposite which the sheets to be printed. The printing roller is in contact at its periphery with the holder plates 3 having two plates or dies 4 engraved intaglio.

[57]

The position of the cylinder, between plate 3 is determined relative to the printing cylinder 1 so that the plates 4 come into register with the printed sheets disposed on the sectors 2 during rotation of the cylinders 1 and 3. On the periphery of the plate cylinder 3 are applied two sets of rollers, the first of the sets including the rollers 6, 7, 8 and 9 for the inking of plates, one for each ink color, while the second set comprising the cylinders 10, 11 and 12 are especially for removing excess ink in sizes and to the plaque surface without mixing the colors and buff perfectly said surface.

[58]

To obtain the inking of plates 4 by the form rollers 6, 7, 8, 9, these toucheurs get dressed or milled, as already indicated, so that each of them cannot contact plates 4 in areas that are well determined in this plate corresponding to an area in an inking color. By a hobbing complementarily of form rollers 6, 7, 8, 9, this achieves the inking of the entire surface of the plates 4 without obtaining any desired place inking with two colors. The different color will thus be separated (see fig. 2 to 5) by a line perfectly delimited schematized in example 21 and separating two inks of different colors located in 22 and 23.

[59]

This inking is, for example, obtained for each of the rolls 6, 7, 8 and 9, by means of secondary rollers 6U 62 , 63 , 64 and 6S , 65 of which is in contact with a supply of ink 6g. Some of these rollers have an axial movement.

[60]

With these form rollers, thus an inking plates as shown in Figure 2.

[61]

However, the inking is not soon to present suitable for printing, because on the one hand the surface of the plates 4 is covered with ink, and the ink is not arranged in the bottom plates 14 sizes.

[62]

The assembly 10, 11 and 12 is therefore for compacting the ink in the bottom sizes, removing ink from the surface of the plates and to adjust the volume of optimum required the amount of ink deposited in the sizes.

[63]

On the periphery of the plate cylinder 3 and after the toucheurs, in the direction of rotation of the plate cylinder 3, is first disposed a cylinder 10, which is compacted ink into the bottom sizes and removing a portion of the ink in the sizes and to the plaque surface without mixing the colors.

[64]

For this purpose, the cylinder 10 is rotated at a circumferential speed identical to that of the plate cylinder 3 and its diameter is further determined based on the pushing so that the length of its circumference corresponds exactly to the length of the plates 4, so that during rotation of said cylinder 10 relative to the plate cylinder, each generatrix of the cylinder 10 comes always in contact with the generatrices of the plate cylinder.

[65]

The inking of plates 4 then becomes that represented in Figure 3, wherein the ink 15 is compacted in the bottom sizes and do not fill in their entirety.

[66]

It should be however clean the cylinder 10 as it rotates without producing a color mixing therein, because, for the case when cleaning the cylinder 10 would not be perfect, a ink displacing fitting over this cylinder would produce a color mixture by discharging on the plates 4.

[67]

This is ohtenu by rollers 16 and 17 cleaners which are pressed one against the other, the cylinder 16 is in contact with the cylinder 10, the cylinders 16, 17 being further diameter than the cylinder 10 and rotate at the same speed and without friction on each other.

[68]

In this manner, the ink on the cylinder 10 and which comes from the excess ink plates 4 discharges on the cylinder 16 and then on the cylinder 17, and this such that each generator cylinders 10, 16 and 17 always returns into contact the same generatrix of the one or more adjacent cylinders.

[69]

The last cylinder 17 clearer rollers is, furthermore, cleaned by brushes 19 disposed in a tank 20 containing a solvent and wrung out by a squeegee 18.

[70]

After the cylinder 10 is placed a cylinder pre-wiping 11 which rotates in the same direction as the cylinder 10 but at a rotational speed slightly higher than that of the plate cylinder 3. There is thus a slight friction of the periphery of this cylinder against the plates 4

[71]

However, the speed of rotation of the cylinder is determined to avoid any mixture of color to the surface of the plates, which in addition is facilitated by the fact that the toner on the surface of the plates 4 has already been partially removed by the cylinder 10.

[72]

The rotation of the cylinder 11 and optionally also will be accompanied by back and forth laterally with the objective of increasing the wiping.

[73]

This cylinder 11, combined with the action of the cylinder 10, aim, on the one hand, contribute to rubbing of the top faces of the plates 4, on the other hand, remove still a certain amount of ink sizes 14 (see fig. 4), in order to bring it to the desired value and thus avoid the regiflage ink which would occur under the action of the paper, which, due to the pressure, penetrates more or less deeply into the sizes according to its nature and characteristics of the lining material of the plate cylinder 1.

[74]

Then only while wiping the complete to the top side of the plates and this is ohtenu (see fig. 1) by the cylinder 12.

[75]

The cylinder 12 rotates in the circumferential direction opposite to that of the cylinder 3, and is applied for producing a large friction on the top side of the plates.
