The proposed optical iconoscope device for measuring roughness of a surface contains a monochromatic radiation source, two polarizers, an electrooptical transducer based on a birefringent crystal, which is installed between the polarizer, a digital photodetector based on a charge coupled device array, a data processor, and a modulating signal generator. The electrodes of the electrooptical transducer are connected to the output of the modulating signal generator. The proposed device is distinctive by its enhanced accuracy.[1]
