METHOD AND DEVICE FOR CARRYING OUT A PROGRESSIVE QUANTIZATION
The invention relates to an iterative method for carrying out a progressive quantization of coefficients by conducting successive quantization refinements after an initial quantization step performed on each of these coefficients with a predetermined quantization step and furnishing quantized data, in which a coefficient is called refined during a given iteration if this value attributed during the refining step is not zero in such a manner that, for each ongoing iteration, at least up to the next to last iteration, and for each refined coefficient of this ongoing iteration, during the following iteration: the ranking step assigns, to the coefficient, the significant type, and; the following steps of determining a residual and of refining are not carried out.
