Their lengths make 1/32-1/36 of the bottom-limiting circle length. As the distance from the center increases, the size of the abrasive grains in the coating increases from 160 mcm to 600 mcm. A process and apparatus for peeling fruit and vegetable fruits by means of a heat shock treatment are described. The material to be peeled is continuously and suddenly exposed for a period of approximately one to one and a half minutes to a temperature in an order of magnitude of 500 DEG C. In a subsequent unheated, but externally insulated, region the material then has sufficient time for the peel to separate as a result of the thermal expansion occurring on heating. A brush peeling device is connected on the outlet side of the tunnel oven, by means of which brush peeling device remnants of peel still adhering are removed. A continuous peeling device is thus made possible and a significant increase in efficiency in mechanical treatment of fruit or vegetable fruits.

The peel and/or the connection between the peel and the flesh of the produce can be at least partially destroyed by a caustic fluid and/or steam. Once the peel has been sufficiently loosened from the flesh, forced air may be applied to the surface of the produce to remove the loosened peel and any residual caustic fluid. Using air to remove the loosened peel instead of the conventional use of water significantly reduces the freshwater requirements and substantially reduces the quantity of wastewater discharge with very low concentration of contaminants. The peels, caustic fluid, and water can be collected and separated, after which the peels can be neutralized and fed to livestock, used as fertilizer, or used for pectin production, and the caustic fluid and residual water can recycled.

Has no inward protruding parts which can damage the goods to be peeled. It creates a large access opening for feeding and discharging.

The system of claim 1 , wherein the machine learning model is defined based on a simulation model comprising a physical simulation of organic material within the one or more peelers.3. The appts. to peel agricultural produce in an industrial application, such as for root vegetables and certain fruit, has a trough conveyor screw to carry the material from the feed to the outlet. The screw is within a trough, and has a constant screw pitch. The rotary speed of the screw can be varied, as it carries the produce through the peeling operation. Pref. the trough is formed by powered peeling rollers, powered in two gps. by two drives. They are rotated in opposite directions according to the loading and quality. The peeling rollers have structured edges, similar to smooth cut files, with deeper milling at the feed end, becoming smoother towards the outlet, so that the produce is virtually smooth when it emerges. For maintenance, and a rapid peeling roller exchange, a snap coupling in on a double-bearing drive journal at the drive end, and a roller bearing is inserted into the end plate at the take-off end. A fine sieve trap and material removal unit is built-in below the trough. The sides of the machine frame are covered by suspended plates of a non-rust and non-damaging to foodstuff material, to catch water sprays. ADVANTAGE - The appts. gives an even peeling action to the produce, which passes through the systems without bunching or clogging.

A potato peeling apparatus includes a drum-type batch peeler (12, 100), an unpeeled potato infeed assembly (14) upstream from the batch peeler and a peeled potato discharge assembly (16) downstream from the batch peeler. A machine for thermal shock treatment of fruit and vegetables prior to peeling is claimed. The prod. is placed inside a vessel and subjected to direct contact with pressurised live steam at high temp.. This condition is maintained for a very brief period i.e. about half a minute. The prod. is then cooled by spraying with cold water which rapidly produces a vacuum inside the vessel by condensing the steam. The vessel is now internally lined with a layer of thermal insulation material. Within the vessel, a perforated basket is fitted to contain the prod. being processed. The exterior of the basket is well clear of the interior of the vessel at all points. The layer of insulation protects the vessel shell from thermal stresses which could set up metal fatigue. Time and heat energy are no longer wasted in changing the temp. of the shell because the prod. can be treated in a shorter time in the vessel, the prod. surface is less prone to heat softening which makes it easily damaged.
