Provided are a method and apparatus for making a cigarette filter assembly for potentially reducing particle breakthrough. The method includes forming a lofty porous network of charge retaining polymer fibers by mechanical, chemical or thermal bonding of the fibers, wrapping the lofty porous network in a cylindrical or tubular shape with optional mediating filter fibers in a filter paper to form a filter plug while maintaining the lofty structure. The charge retaining fibers can be charged to attract and hold particles from such sources as particulate matter from sorbents (preventing break-through), and smoke constituents while having a suitable pressure drop. There is provided a particle-filter comprising at least one hydrogel formed in aqueous solution at a temperature below 0° C. The filter can arrest particulates of smoke by physisorption on the solid surface of the gel or by chemisorption if the gel is suitably functionalized. The effectiveness of filter in arresting the solid particles and the pressure drop can be controlled by varying the porosity and the pore size distribution of the filter which in turn can be modulated by varying the monomer to water and monomer to cross-linker ratio in the pre-polymer solution. The filter is able to reduce the particle content of the smoke. There is further provided a cigarette comprising at least one particle-filter according as well as a method for the filtration of smoke. 1. The entangled fibers of the mixed fiber sliver may be sufficiently separated from one another such that blooming operations typically required in filter element production may not be necessary prior to incorporating the mixed fiber sliver into a filter element. The paper has a content of long-fiber pulp of at least 30 wt %, preferably at least 40 wt %, relative to the pure fiber mass of the paper. The present invention relates to a filter comprising a nonwoven substrate having a low density and comprising natural fibers and a binder. The filter can be used as a filter for a smoking or vaping article. 1. Filter comprising a nonwoven substrate comprising natural fibers and a binder , in which the natural fibers represent between 70% and 99% by weight of solids of said nonwoven substrate , the binder represents between 1% and 30% by weight of solids of said nonwoven substrate ,characterized in that the nonwoven substrate has a density of between 7 mg/cm3 and 60 mg/cm3.2. Filter according to claim 1 , in which the nonwoven substrate has a thickness of between 700 μm and 6000 μm.3. A system and method for incorporating and releasing a substance into a smokable material is provided. In one embodiment of the present invention, a smokable element (e.g., a cigarette) includes a first wrapper and a filler (e.g., tobacco, cannabis , etc.) encased by the first wrapper. A capsule is then embedded within the filler and a second wrapper is placed over the first wrapper adjacent the capsule. The capsule may comprise a liquid (e.g., cannabinoids, terpenes, etc.) encased within a shell. By squeezing the second wrapper, the shell can be crushed (or broken open), releasing the liquid into the filler, thereby creating a “splash zone.” Vapors and/or smoke from the splash zone can then be inhaled by a user, enhancing the user's smoking experience.
