LASTING MACHINE HAVING FLEXIBLE LASTING STRAP A lasting machine for operating on a shoe assembly formed of a last having an upper mounted thereon and an insole located on its bottom by wiping the side portions of the margin of an upper against the corresponding portions of an insole. The wiping is performed by flexible lasting straps having rigid top segments which are moved from a position wherein the top segments are folded part way towards the insole to positions wherein the top segments press the upper margin against the insole to wipe the upper margin against the insole and bond the wiped margin to the insole by means of cement. The machine has nozzles that travel along the corners between the upper margin and the insole periphery, while the top segments are folded part way towards the insole, and apply the cement into the corners during this travel. The shoe assembly is supported bottom-up on a support that applies a yieldable upwardly directed force to the shoe assembly.

As shown, the form 1 is divided along an oblique plane 2 into two parts 1a, 1b of which the part 1b is movable to a position 1b<SP>1</SP> by a rod 3 operated by a pneumatic cylinder. The soleshaped face 6 may be planar or shaped to apply bent soles to the uppers of boots with heels. With the part 1b in position 1b<SP>1</SP>, the upper 4 is positioned around the form 1 with the edge 5 protruding above the face 6. The part 1b is lowered to increase the length of the face 6 so that the edge 5 is drawn inwardly at the toe and heel ends (5<SP>1</SP>), Fig. 2 (not shown), of the upper to reduce the formation of undulations at these areas. (I) is pref simultaneously dried and activated so that, when the water is completely driven off, the PU particles soften and flow together to form a sealed layer of adhesive; (I) contains no crosslinker, or a crosslinker, pref. a water-emulsifiable polyisocyanate, is added immediately before use; (I) is a PU dispersion adhesive contg. a thickener, which is readily applied by brushing; standard mixt. ADVANTAGE: The invention provides an economical process for bonding shoe parts(for repair and mfr) with solvent-free dispersion adhesives.

Pairs of clamps secure a sole at a forefoot region and a heel region to prevent movement of a location of the sole upon application of a perimeter deforming force. While the top surface of the perimeter is splayed, a cemented upper is caused to contact the top surface of the sole in a longitudinal direction from the heel end to the toe end.
