An upper die with a button-mounting member includes a solid axial part with a flat tip, a bar-like pin member with a pointed tip, and a cylindrical punch surrounding the pin member. The button is set above the cloth and the button-mounting member is disposed below the cloth. The upper die is lowered until the button comes into contact with the upper side of the cloth and the tip of the axial part contacts the lower side of the cloth. The pin member is lowered until the tip hits against the tip of the axial part, resulting in a pilot bore through the cloth. The axial part passes through the cloth along the pilot bore and through the mounting opening. After that, the axial part is swaged by the pin member and the punch.

A snap fit extender , comprising:an elastic body having a length and width, said body equipped with male and female snap fits at opposing first and second ends of the elastic body in operationally opposed facing relation; each said snap fitting cooperatively engageable with a complimentary snap fitting on a cover and a vehicle; said elastic body responsive to dimensional changes to the cover occasioned by UV, weather, temperature or age related dimensional changes to limit stresses to said cover.2. The snap fit extender of claim 1 , wherein said elastic body is comprised of at least two layers of elastic material; said material having resistance to ultraviolet light induced degradation.3. The snap fit extender of claim 1 , wherein said elastic body is comprised of at least one elastic chord in an ultraviolet resistant woven elastic polymer material.4. The snap fit extender of claim 1 , wherein at least one said end is heat sealed.5. The snap fit extender of claim 1 , wherein at least one end is terminated with an aglet claim 1 , a clamp claim 1 , or a cross stitch.6. The snap fit of claim 1 , wherein said elastic body includes elastic chords arranged substantially parallel to each other along the width of the body and extending along the length of the body. The present invention generally relates to fastening systems. Specifically, this invention relates to a twist-lock button configured to securely fasten two articles together. In preferred embodiments of the present invention, the twist-lock button comprises four pieces: a handle, a locking portion, a negative, and a button adapter. The negative attaches to an article by way of the button adapter. The locking portion attaches to the handle and passes through a button hole in the article to join with the negative by twisting 180 degrees, thereby fastening the two portions of the article together between the handle and the negative. This mechanism is more durable than hook and loop fasteners, more reliable than buttons and snaps, and less prone to jamming than zippers. In addition, the twist-lock button is easier to use for people with muscular or motor disabilities, such as cerebral palsy, ALS, stroke recoverees, and amputees. These features and others will be detailed in greater depth within. 1.
