The recess may have a insertion channel and a locking chamber. In one embodiment, the insertion channel and the locking chamber may be connected by an axial channel. The recess may pass through a lateral surface of the head so that the base surface may remain cohesive or unobstructed. A guide means, such as a guide rod, may be positioned though the recess so that the head may be moveable on the guide means and not disengage the guide means. A shaft having a handle may be attached to the head to assist a surgeon in moving the head on the guide means.

Method for expanding bone crest ( 1 ) in order to receive the installation of a final dental implant ( 4 ), where the bone crest ( 1 ) is expanded using a implant-expander, in other words, a biocompatible and osteoconductive piece that has an expander function. The use of an implant-expander ( 3 ) to widen the bone crest ( 1 ) has the important effect of said implant-expander acting as a support to the bone and therefore helping to consolidate the fracture of the bone crest ( 1 ) and the formation of bone around said implant-expander. The bone generated around the implant-expander ( 3 ) is therefore of a high quality. The invention also contemplates the optional correction of the angulation of the alveolus during the widening process, so that the final dental implant ( 4 ) and the corresponding dental prosthesis are adequately oriented. It is also an object of the invention to provide a specific design for the implant-expander ( 3 ).

An intramedullary nail has a scalloped compression slot so as to define a plurality of pockets and intersections between the pockets that are narrower than the pockets. Accordingly, a compression member can be inserted into a bone segment of a fractured bone and into the slot. The compression member can be wider than the intersections. A compression actuator can apply a force against the compression member that causes the compression member to translate across the intersections from pocket-to-pocket until the fracture has been approximated. Because the compression member is wider than the intersections, the compression slot retains the compression member and prevents distraction of the fracture.

Apparatus for treating a bone fracture , the apparatus comprising:an anchoring tube comprising a hollow elongated shaft adapted for disposition in a hole formed in a bone and having a distal end, a proximal end and a lumen extending therebetween, and a substantially planar plate mounted to the proximal end of the hollow elongated shaft and adapted for disposition against the outer surface of the bone;wherein the hollow elongated shaft comprises at least two diametrically-opposed holes extending therethrough; anda suture assembly extending through a bone fragment, through at least one of the diametrically-opposed holes in the hollow elongated shaft, and through the lumen of the anchoring tube, the suture assembly securing the bone fragment to the anchoring tube under tension, whereby to secure the bone fragment to the bone receiving the anchoring tube.8. Apparatus according to wherein a first portion of the suture assembly bears against the bone fragment and a second portion of the suture assembly is secured to the anchoring tube.9. In one embodiment, a centering guide system includes a cannulated post and a translucent surface trial where the cannulated post includes a slit defining legs that flex to engage the post when inserted in a hole of the surface trial. The system is used to confirm a suitable implant size and place a pilot wire in preparation for implant placement. The cannulated post and the translucent surface trial provide comprehensive visibility of the glenoid surface. When inserted into the surface trial, an extension of the cannulated post beyond an articulating surface of the surface trial is minimal or nonexistent. In one embodiment, a strike instrument that couples to an insertion handle of an intramedullary nail has a shaft that extends along a shaft axis, and an abutment that extends outward relative to the shaft. The abutment is rotationally fixed to the shaft such that the shaft can rotate the abutment between a first orientation, where the abutment can be removed or inserted into the insertion handle, and a second orientation, where the abutment forms an interference with the insertion handle that prevents the abutment from being removed from the handle. The strike instrument includes a strike surface that can transfer an impaction force to the insertion handle, and a lock that engages the insertion handle so as to prevent the abutment from rotating from the second orientation to the first orientation after the abutment is rotated within the insertion handle from the first orientation to the second orientation.
