Test disc used to examine visual acuity under differing lighting conditions

Номер: DE0019501578A1
Принадлежит:

A test disc is used in a unit for the testing of visual acuity under differing lighting conditions. There is a casing, a test object carrier, on which test patterns are arranged for recognition, and holes allowing bright, directed aperture light to pass through. The two parts of the casing rotate against each other, relative to the central axis. A first neutral density filter is fitted to the upper part, covering an angular region of up to 180 deg . This part of the casing is so constructed, that when the first filter is in front of the visible test pattern, no bright light passes through the holes.

The visual function is determined with the help of test images, comprising inducing photostress induced by illuminating the eye with an intense light, then measuring the time needed for the recovery of the visual function before the illumination. The test images are periodically moving test images, and the visual function is determined on the basis of detecting the phenomenon of optokinetic nystagmus. According to another process the visual function is determined by measuring critical fusion frequency (CFF) before and after the photostress.

APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR ASSESSING VISUAL SUPPRESSION

Номер: CA0002676122C

A device is used to determine the presence of and the amount (depth) of visual suppression in a subject. The device includes a first light source emitting a first light and a second light source emitting a second light. Intensities of the light sources are independently controllable. A first filter disposed over one eye of the subject allows transmission of the first light and prevents transmission of the second light. A second filter disposed over the other eye of the subject allows transmission of the second light and prevents transmission of the first light. In a method of using the device, the intensity of at least one of the first and second lights is independently controlled, wherein the difference in intensities of the first and second lights at which the lights appear to be at equal brightness to the subject determines the amount of visual suppression in the subject.

FLICKER PHOTOMETER

Номер: CA0002284120C
Принадлежит: THE HOWARD FOUNDATION, HOWARD FOUNDATION

A flicker photometer has beam generating means (1, 8 and 4) for generating two beams of light of different colours. Light from the beams is viewed at the viewing means, and the intensity of light of one beam relative to that of the other beam can be adjusted by adjustment means comprising an attenuating filter (20) which is movably mounted in the path of one beam. Movement of the filter relative to the beam alters the degree to which the beam is attenuated, and is achieved using an electric motor (22). The motor provides a relatively easy means of adjusting the filter position, and can be used to provide coarse and fine adjustments in response to suitable signals from an optical encoder. The motor also enables the filter, along with the beam generating means, to be mounted on a movable table for use in enabling the photometer to accommodate both short and long-sighted subjects.

METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR DETECTING, CHARACTERIZING AND MONITORING OPTIC NERVE DISEASE

Номер: CA1274412A

A method and system are provided for detecting, characterizing and monitoring eye diseases and, particularly optic nerve diseases, by determining the difference in relative brightness sensed by the two eyes. The method utilizes eyeglasses having a pair of cross-polarizing lenses selectively adjustable for blocking or admitting light into each eye. The patient observes an illuminated test object while looking through the eyeglasses at maximum luminance. By adjusting the relative polarization of the lenses for the eye in which the test object appears the brightest, while occluding the other eye, the amount of brightness sensed by that eye can be compared to the other eye. If there is a disparity in brightness-sense between the eyes within certain pre-established ranges, the nature of the eye disease can be detected and specifically characterized, and its progression or resolution can be monitored.

Provided is a visual field test assistance apparatus capable of inferring a current visual field status at each test point. A predetermined mixture distribution is applied to a prior-distribution, and parameters regarding the predetermined mixture distribution are learned with reference to time-series information of visual field test results obtained in the past regarding a plurality of cases. The visual field test assistance apparatus calculates an inference test result vector representing an inference result of visual sensitivity to be obtained by the visual field test at each test point, by Bayesian inference, and performs an information output process on the basis of the inference test result vector obtained by the inference.

Embodiments test a subject's vision. A polarization arrangement polarizes incident light and rotates an angle of polarization applied to the incident light about an axis substantially collinear with a path of the light. An optical component directs light onto the polarization arrangement and produces light having a selected degree of polarization and having a rotating angle of polarization for observation by the subject The subject may be able to observe the visual phenomenon known as Haidinger's brushes and due to the rotation of the angle of polarization the eye's tendency to adapt away the phenomenon is counteracted, so that the effect persists and a more reliable testing of the subject can be carried out. Testing the subject's ability to perceive the phenomenon at multiple selectable degrees of polarization enables an assessment of the subject's eyes, and an estimate of macular pigment optical density and susceptibility to age-related macular degeneration. 1. The present invention relates to indirect diagnosis of deficiency of Vitamin A, without taking blood sample. The instrument combines two simple principles for full functionality, An individual having Vitamin A deficiency can be differentiated from a healthy person on 2 basis: (1) The ability to clearly identify pictorial representation of an object in the environment having low amount of light intensity; and (2) The time being taken for eyes to adapt to a significantly different lighting situation. The standardization of the instrument has to be done in nearby area in relatively healthy population having rich diet in vitamin A or it is to be adopted based on findings of other area, The diagnosis can be confirmed after repeating the same set of tests, after giving vitamin A in appropriate dosages, and allowing enough time to pass for that dosage to take an effect (generally, 1 to 2 weeks). 1. In-Direct method and system for Vitamin A deficiency detection consists with electronic paper module , LCD to display test object , MicroSD card , key pad , LEDWherein electronic paper is provided to view the letters and pictures in a natural manner, as it does not have any light source and rather, work on the principle of light reflection;Wherein a LCD is provided to display test data, recorded values, and useful information and it also serves the purpose of user interfacing by giving proper output;Wherein MicroSD card used in the system to provide storage memory for completed tests, and to store configuration file which can be easily updated;Wherein Keypad is provided to take inputs from user.Wherein White Light Emitting Diode is used to produce controlled amount of illumination in the device—on the Electronic Paper, and another similar component used to provide flash light, as a first stage of dark adaption test;Wherein PIN Photodiode is used to measure the light intensity.2. A light source encircles and contacts the straight or curved chamfered edge. Additionally, a reflective cylinder and its top wall encircle the lens to block any loss of light. This distal edge of the contact lens may be rounded to increase the angle of retina visible. A new ocular imaging camera has a low-light camera subassembly with server, a photosensor next to low-light camera, a short cylindrical housing, a space between the camera subassembly and the housing, an internal program in server to detect good or poor image quality and an alarm for poor image quality, wherein an operator recaptures the image. A system has a highly efficient method to screen and diagnose a large number of patients using the new ocular contact lens and ocular imaging camera. The system receives and processes the photographs. The photographs are transmitted to eye care specialists' smart phone, tablet or virtual reality device for evaluation. As specified, the eye care specialist separates normal from abnormal, diagnoses the abnormality, and may even provide detailed information, such as the grade of the abnormality. The server receives this information and automatically generates the suitable report for the healthcare professional. The server also processes payment to the eye care specialist. 1.
