Packaging

Номер: US20120024735A1
Принадлежит: Individual

A plurality of small packages, each for approximately a day's supply of tampons, are provided in an outer carrier box. The tampons in the small packages may be provided in a single row, and may be individually adhered to the bottom of the package. Each small package may be tapered to facilitate insertion of the individual package into a small space, such as a pocket, for discrete storage or carrying. The individual package may be formed with an inner box covered by an outer sleeve movable, like a flap, from the inner box to permit ready access to the contents of the inner box. A closure is provided that is resistant to inadvertent opening. The closure may be specifically configured for a tapered end of a tapered package. The closure may conceal the engaging elements thereof from view to inhibit inadvertent opening of the closure. If desired, a feedback feature, such as an auditory or tactile cue, may be provided by the closure to cue the user that the closure is securely closing the package.

Автор: Joseph R. Nigro
Принадлежит: Individual

A shield seals out moisture over a portion of a wearer's limb. The shield may be used to protect chronic Intravenous (IV) sites preventing moisture from reaching the IV site and provides a moisture tight compartment for carrying personal items during aquatic activities. The shield is made of a thermoplastic elastomer material which freely stretches and includes two opposing very small entry openings which stretch to form collar regions at each stretched opening providing an area versus a line of contact between the shield and skin thereby sealing out moisture. The improved sealing of the present invention allows many activities previously denied to patients. The shield is preferably generally spherical but may be elliptical, football shaped, oval, or other shapes and may have one closed end or multiple openings for fingers or toes.

Heel Protection Device

Номер: US20130167848A1
Принадлежит: THE JOHNS HOPKINS UNIVERSITY

A heel protection method and device for the protection of heel ulcers includes an inflatable bladder adapted to be positioned adjacent a calf of a patient and a sensor adapted to be positioned adjacent a heel of the patient for detecting pressure at the heel. A microprocessor is adapted to receive a signal related to pressure at the heel, from which it determines whether an allowable level has been exceeded. If an excessive pressure level is sensed, the microprocessor transmits a signal to a separate device that alerts the caregiver to inflate the inflatable bladder or automatically by way of a pump operatively connected to the microprocessor. The method and device avoids excessive pressure at the heel by sensing the pressure at the heel, and redistributing the pressure from the heel to the calf if an allowable pressure level has been exceeded. 1. METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR ORTHOPEDIC CAST REMOVAL UTILIZING A ROTARY IMPACT DRIVER

Номер: US20130296753A1
Принадлежит:

An orthopedic cast removal tool and method uses an unmodified, typically cordless, rotary impact driver and a embedded wire to cut through an orthopedic cast for removal. By merging it with a slotted spacer block specifically for this cast removal purpose, an ergonomic tool is provided which allays fears of orthopedic patients. When rotating and encountering high resistance of the plaster or fiberglass material of the cast, the cordless rotary impact driver does not bog down; since it seamlessly engages impact action, which offers an order of magnitude or more torque multiplication via short frequent pulses (several per second) to overcome this torque resistance. Thus a high amount of torque with very little reaction force is made available to cut through a cast while affording the technician good control. The cast is cut very rapidly with little dust creation and no jostling of the patient. 1. Cast removal apparatus for an orthopedic cast enclosing a limb , said cast removal apparatus comprisinga) an unmodified rotary impact driver;b) a cast-embedded wire embedded within the orthopedic cast enclosing a limb;c) a wire winding mandrel bit, and,d) a slotted spacer block, wherein said mandrel bit is engaged in a chuck of said unmodified rotary impact driver and upon rotational activation of said unmodified rotary impact driver said cast-embedded wire engaged through a hole of said mandrel bit, said wire being wound onto said mandrel bit within a central cavity of said slotted spacer block as said wire is pulled by said rotating mandrel bit, thereby cutting said cast in a severance line in a cutting phase.2. The cast removal apparatus as in further comprising said spacer block spacing said wire winding mandrel away from an outer surface of said cast and supporting a distal end of said wire winding mandrel in a rotary bearing.3. Equine bandage wrapper

Номер: US20160058633A1
Автор: Mark Peltier, Sally Broten
Принадлежит: Individual

An equine bandage wrapping device includes a motor with a rotating drive shaft mounted on a hinged bracket. A forked spindle coupled to the motor engages the bandage. The hinged bracket pivots in response to external force causing a torque on the hinge. The external force is supplied by the user pulling slightly against the bandage while it is secured to the forks. Such force is resisted by a spring disposed between a base plate and the underside of the floating end of the hinged bracket. If sufficient force is applied to overcome the spring force, then the electrical circuit between the motor and power source is closed, resulting in the motor turning on. The circuit is opened by removing the external force to cause the spring to return to its extended position, resulting in the motor stopping movement.

Wound healing is a lengthy and continuous process, although it is typically recognized as occurring in stages. The process begins immediately after injury, with an inflammatory stage. During this stage, which typically lasts from two days to one week (depending on the wound), damaged tissues and foreign matter are removed from the wound. The proliferative stage occurs at a time after the inflammatory stage and is characterized by fibroblast proliferation and collagen and proteoglycan production.
