The present invention relates to an improved system for use in rehabilitation and/or physical therapy for the treatment of injury or disease to the lower limbs or extremities. The system can enable an amputee to proceed over any inclined or declined surface without overbalancing. The system is mechanically passive in that it does not utilize motors, force generating devices, batteries, or powered sources that may add undesirable weight or mass and that may require recharging. In particular the system is self-adapting to adjust the torque moment depending upon the motion, the extent of inclination, and the surface topography. An additional advantage of the improvement is that the system can be light and may also be simple to manufacture.

The bone anchored mounting post is implanted for direct affixation to patient bone, and carries or is connected to a fixator structure protruding through soft skin tissue and the like at the end or stump of an amputated limb for mechanical connection to the external prosthesis. The safety release mechanism accommodates substantially normal patient movement throughout a corresponding range of substantially normal mechanical loads, but releases in the presence of an excess load to prevent undesirable fracture failures.

An adjustment-free cushioning air cylinder includes an air cylinder body, a piston, a first check valve, an upper air way, a second check valve and a lower air way. An air chamber is formed inside the air cylinder body. The piston slides in the air chamber. One end of the piston extends to the external of the air cylinder body. The piston does a reciprocating movement in the air chamber and divides the air chamber into an upper air chamber and a lower air chamber. The first check valve is disposed in the piston, one end of the first check valve is connected to the upper air chamber, and the other end is connected to the lower air chamber. The upper air way connects the upper air chamber with the outside. The adjustment-free cushioning air cylinder of the invention does not need to adjust the entering flow rate of the air, but the entering flow rate can be automatically adjusted to produce cushioning resistance as the user is walking according to the walking speed. The present invention has a simple structure, high cushioning performance, lower cost, and is not easy to damage, thus can greatly improve the product competitiveness.

An idealized ratio of the cross sectional area of each section can be determined such that under an applied load provided to the hybrid layup, the ratio of maximum stress of a given section over the flexural strength of that given section is approximately equal for all sections of the hybrid layup. The hybrid layup arrangement can be configured to have a greater strength, but generally the same stiffness, as a similar foot member made of carbon fiber.

Various features for improving the performance of prosthetic sport feet are provided. Prosthetic sport feet according to the present disclosure can be designed to improve performance in board sport activities, for example, surfing, windsurfing, kitesurfing, wakeboarding, skateboarding, snowboarding, skiing, and the like. A prosthetic board sports foot can have a wide profile and large area for contacting the board or ground to improve stability. The board sports foot can include a traction sole to reduce slippage on the board. The board sports foot can also include an attachment member for attaching the foot to a user's residual limb or another prosthetic component. The attachment member can include a tendon designed to allow for flexibility over an initial short range of movement. The tendon can be interchangeable, and tendons having various stiffnesses can be provided. 1. A prosthetic foot comprising:an elongate foot member comprising a toe portion having a toe ground contacting portion, a heel portion having a heel ground contacting portion, and a substantially horizontal arch portion between the toe portion and heel portion;wherein a width of the toe portion increases from the arch portion to the toe ground contacting portion and a width of the heel portion increases from the arch portion to the heel ground contacting portion.2. The prosthetic foot of claim 1 , wherein the toe portion and heel portion are symmetrical in a medial-lateral direction and the toe portion is symmetrical to the heel portion.3. The proximal and the distal are rotatable in the opposite sense to release the grip. One part of a drive of the part is pivoted to the base about a base pivot axis. Another part of the drive is pivoted to the distal about a distal pivot axis. The distal is also pivoted to the proximal about the said distal pivot axis. Thus the proximal, the distal and the said another part of the drive are all pivotable relative to one another about the said distal pivot axis.

As may be consistent with one or more embodiments described herein, movement parameters pertaining to movement of a user of a prosthetic foot are sensed as the user travels along a surface, with the prosthetic foot having a front ball region and a rear heel region for respectively contacting the surface. A state of movement of the user, including a speed at which the user is travelling along the surface, is determined based on the sensed movement parameters. Utilizing a mechanical actuator, the prosthetic foot is dynamically positioned in response to the speed at which the user is travelling along the surface, by manipulating the mechanical actuator to move the rear heel region relative to the front ball region based on changes in the speed.

The present foot prosthesis includes various structural features that provide the foot with advantageous rollover properties. In certain embodiments, the foot guides rollover toward the medial side. For example, an asymmetrical upper element and a correspondingly shaped resilient ankle member support more of the wearer's weight on the lateral side as the foot rolls over. In another embodiment, stiffeners added to the resilient ankle member increase the stiffness on the lateral side relative to the medial side. In certain other embodiments, the foot provides progressively increasing support from mid stance through toe off. For example, a gap between the resilient ankle member and the lower element closes during the later portion of the wearer's gait. The closing gap increases a contact area between the resilient ankle member and the lower element, providing progressively increasing support. In another embodiment, the foot includes a gap between a lower front edge of an attachment adapter and the upper element. The gap may be filled with a resilient material.

A prosthetic liner for use with a prosthetic assembly that acts as the interface between the residual limb of an amputee and the socket assembly. The prosthetic liner comprises an outer textile with variable stretch characteristics due to the knit construction and stitching and an interior gel layer. The distal region of the liner textile has less stretch than does the intermediate region or proximal region and is stitched together to form a unitary liner. The liner advantageously minimizes a condition referred to as “pistoning” wherein the distal most portion of the residual limb ascends and descends in the lower portion of the socket creating an unhealthy condition for the residual limb.
