A method of laser eye surgery including linking retinal vessel architecture to corneal topography. This enables registration of the steep axis of the cornea in order to orient a toric intraocular lens, and/or to place astigmatic keratotomy incisions. First, a detailed pre-operative retinal image of the vasculature of the retina is obtained. In addition, a pre-operative image of the topography of the eye is obtained. The retinal image is then correlated or superimposed on the topography image to provide a reference. After the patient lies down under the laser eye surgery system, and during the surgery, the retinal vasculature is monitored which provides a reference to the surgery system about the topography of the eye. A system and method for actuating controlled stimulation of a patient in a confined medical position helps sooth and entertain a patient receiving medical treatment while resting on a support member, like a dental chair. The system provides a support member, and integrates at least one air actuated animated member, such as a mobile or figurine, proximal to the support member, to enable animated motion by the animated member through pressurized air. Pressurized air causes the animated members to articulate in animated, colorful movements. Audio signals are also generated by the animated member in response to the pressurized air. Shear-reduction cushioning devices are provided for the prevention of shear related wounds. Cushioning devices include upper and lower cushioning layers that contact each other through at least one internal shear reduction layer provided between the cushioning layers and extending over a shear reduction region, such that dynamic relative translation of the two cushioning layers is permitted within the shear reduction region while absorbing friction and shear internally. The interface between the cushioning layers (where the shear reduction layer is provided) may be angled relative to an external surface of the cushioning device. The cushioning layers may be attached or attachable to one another beyond the shear reduction region, to limit an amount of relative translation of the cushioning layers and to re-center or reset the cushioning layers after use. 1.
