A biologically active composition to treat colorectal cancer includes an extract of the plant Schisandra chinensis and a suitable pharmaceutical formulation. The extract can be at least one of gomisin A, angeloylgomisin H, deoxyschisandrin and gomisin N, showing activities against human tumor cell line HT-29 in the range of about 716 μM to about 43 μM. A suitable pharmaceutical formulation can be any one of a pill, a tablet, a capsule, a liquid solution, a liquid suspension, a powder, an intravenous solution, a gel and a suppository form. The extract is prepared by grinding the dried berries, extracting with hexane, extracting the marc with dichloromethane, extracting the dichloromethane soluble fraction with ethyl acetate, removing fatty materials in the dichloromethane-ethyl acetate soluble fraction with hexane, and fractionating the total hexane insoluble material extract using analytical high performance liquid chromatography equipped with automated repeat injection/collection cycles.

The content of the sea cucumber polysaccharide in the mixture is 2.5˜8.0 wt %, the content of panax pseudo-ginseng saponins is 0.3˜21.0 wt %. An extract from green coffee beans is disclosed which contains polyphenols and bioactive compounds e.g. Chlorogenic acids in a significantly higher concentration (70-80%) than in extracts of prior art methods (40-50%). The extract has greater ability to quench oxidative stress and destroy free radicals and offers health benefits due to its anti-obesity, anti-diabetic, antihypertensive, anti-tumor and anti-acid properties. The higher concentration of bioactive compounds has been achieved by use of polar solvents having polarity less than that of alcohols used for extraction. The use of such solvents of lower polarity such as n-Butyl alcohol, ethyl acetate or acetone results in extraction of enriched Chlorogenic acid fractions into the extract, leaving polar impurities behind in aqueous medium. The invention comprises a biomedically active/delivery site specific capsule-in-capsule liver supplement and method of use thereof. A first set of constituents, of an outer capsule, of a capsule-in-capsule liver supplement, comprises one or more of choline and phosphatidylcholine; a second set of constituents, of an inner capsule, comprise one or more of methionine, glycyrrhetinic acid, silymarin, and phosphatidylcholine; and either capsule optionally contains one or more liver aiding/regulating natural products, where the outer capsule dissolves in the stomach and the inner capsule dissolves in the small intestine. Thus, the dual dissolution process in controlled environments results in complementary and synergistic delivery of liver regulating molecules in a bioavailable form ready for transport through the wall of the small intestine. Further, constituents of the capsule-in-capsule liver supplement include multiple inputs into the methionine cycle, which facilitates/synergistically aids the body's use of the methionine cycle, such as in liver regulation. 1. In a multi-step process for selectively purifying various pharmacologically-relevant components of a source plant such as cannabis, an initial step of the process provides a low-temperature, robust essential oil/terpene capture that also dehydrates and decarboxylates the starting product—fresh raw cannabis—by means of a vacuum-assisted microwave distillation process. By doing the terpene capture under vacuum distillation temperature may be kept low. The low distillation temperature maximizes yields of thermally-sensitive components such as terpenes and cannabinoids. The process includes additional steps of: extract cannabinoids from the dehydrated cannabis to produce a crude extract via a supercritical CO2 extraction process; purify crude extract of fats, lipids, plant material; and distill relevant cannabinoids from the purified crude extract via a wiped-film process. A process for producing an arginine-rich peptide mixture and the application thereof in cervical cancer therapy is provided. The process includes the following steps: A suspension of walnut meal and egg albumin is pretreated with ultrahigh pressure, and then digested by alkaline proteinase and papain in separated steps with the ultrasonic and microwave-assisted extraction. The peptides of interest are isolated from filtration supernatant obtained after the enzyme digestion by reversed phase high-performance liquid chromatography. By using the peptide mixture as a template, acrylic acid and methyl acrylic acid as functional monomers, triethylene glycol dimethacrylate as cross-linking agent, and isopropylthioxanthone in acetone as a photoinitiator, polymerization is induced by ultraviolet light to form a surface imprinted membrane for isolating and enriching the peptides of interest from the supernatant. The arginine content in the peptide mixture is more than 18%. The arginine-rich peptide mixture is able to strongly suppress the proliferation of human cervical cancer Hela cells.
