Thus, it is possible to replace a single radiation source by removing it from the protective sleeve during operation of the fluid treatment system. This operation can be accomplished quickly without the need to shut down the fluid treatment system or otherwise compensate for the fact that one of the radiation source is being serviced.

A method for producing a photoreactive change in a medium to be treated , comprising:(1) placing an energy modulation agent and a photoactivatable agent within a medium to be treated with said medium interceding between the energy modulation agent and a photoactivatable agent, said energy modulation agent comprising a photon emitter which emits at least one of ultraviolet and visible light into the medium to be treated upon interaction with an initiation energy;(2) applying for the initiation energy at least one of x-rays, gamma rays, or an electron beam to the medium in order to emit from said energy modulation agent into the medium to be treated said at least one of ultraviolet and visible light; and(3) inducing, from said at least one of ultraviolet and visible light emitted into the medium to be treated, said photoreactive change to the medium.2. The method of claim 1 , wherein inducing a photoreactive change includes at least one or more of:photocuring the medium to be treated;photocuring an adhesive as the medium to be treated;sterilizing the medium to be treated;pasteurizing the medium to be treated;deactivating fermentation in the medium to be treated;reducing contaminants in waste water comprising said medium to be treated;activating a photoreactive drug in the medium to be treated; oractivating in vivo a photoreactive drug in the medium to be treated.3. Ultraviolet C (UV-C) generators generate UV-C that is directed to architectural partitions of an enclosed area. The architectural partitions reflect UV-C to kill pathogens in the enclosed area. The device transmits a calculated dose of UV-C from a fixture mounted to an architectural partition in the enclosed area. Once an effective cumulative dose of UV-C has been reflected to radiation sensors, as measured by the sensors, the device shuts down. The device may allocate power to specific UV-C emitters so as to direct UV-C radiation more uniformly throughout the area, as measured by the sensors. 1. A method of disinfecting an enclosed area by use of ultraviolet radiation , comprising the steps of:emitting ultraviolet-C radiation from a plurality of spaced apart locations in an enclosed area of a building;receiving and measuring reflected ultraviolet-C radiation at a second plurality of spaced apart locations in the enclosed area of the building; andcontinuing to emit ultraviolet-C radiation from a plurality of spaced apart locations in the enclosed area of the building until each of the second plurality of spaced apart locations receives a defined minimum dosage of ultraviolet-C radiation;wherein at least one location from which ultraviolet-C radiation is emitted is mounted to the enclosed area of the building and is a fixture to the enclosed area of the building.2. Exemplary embodiments are also directed to methods of maintaining a lamp at an optimal operating temperature, generally including providing a lamp ballast system, receiving a sensed temperature, and directing a control signal to the ballast to regulate the electrical current provided to the lamp to maintain the lamp at the optimal operating temperature. 1. A method for sanitizing headsets during a period of non-use by placing the headsets on a support construct in the form of a rack within which there is a source of ultraviolet radiation. The headsets are mounted straddling the rack, gripping the rack to be secured in place with a resilient biasing force. Then, the rack, with mounted headsets, is enclosed within a case, suitable for storage or transport. The source is activated to pass ultraviolet radiation through the rack to impinge upon the headsets, during a timed duration of operation, with the case automatically locked closed for that duration, thereby sanitizing the headsets. Reflective surfaces within the case serve effectively to immerse the headsets within ultraviolet radiation for the duration of operation, and air is circulated within the case, passing through the rack, during the sanitizing operation to assure complete sanitizing of the headsets. 1. A solution for disinfecting electronic devices is provided. An ultraviolet radiation source is embedded within an ultraviolet absorbent case. While the electronic device is within the ultraviolet absorbent case, ultraviolent radiation is directed at the electronic device. A monitoring and control system monitors a plurality of attributes for the electronic device, which can include: a frequency of usage for the device, a biological activity at a surface of the device, and a disinfection schedule history for the device. Furthermore, the monitoring and control system can detect whether the device is being used. Based on the monitoring, the monitoring and control system controls the ultraviolet radiation directed at the electronic device. 1.
