Reduced pressure therapy devices

Номер: US20120016325A1
Принадлежит: Leland Stanford Junior University

Described generally herein are tissue therapy devices, which may comprise a sealant layer and a suction apparatus. The sealant layer functions so as to create a sealed enclosure between it and the surface of a patient by forming, preferably, an airtight seal around an area of tissue that requires negative pressure therapy. The tissue therapy device may comprise a suction apparatus. The suction apparatus is typically in fluid communication with the sealant layer and functions so as to reduce the amount of pressure present underneath the sealant layer. The reduced pressure is self-created by the suction apparatus. Together the sealant layer and the suction apparatus preferably create a closed reduced pressure therapy system. Preferably, the pressure under the sealant layer is reduced by expanding the volume of the enclosure space and thereby decreasing the density of the air molecules under the sealant layer.

Sterile disposable remote pneumatic actuators

Номер: US20120029429A1
Автор: Jeffrey Alan KLEIN
Принадлежит: Individual

The various embodiments of the present invention relate to remote pneumatic (bellows-action) actuators for switching applications, which are preferably sterile and/or disposable. When compressed, the bellows-action actuator provides a pulse of air pressure sufficient to actuate a remotely-located pneumatic switch configured to turn on/off an electrical, mechanical or optical device. The pulse of air pressure is propagated along a non-conducting tube, thereby substantially reducing the risk of e.g., electric shock or O 2 ignition/combustion associated with conventional electric switches in wet, hazardous or medical environments.

Vacuum therapy is an effective way to treat complex open wounds. Today, most of the equipment is very expensive to provide widespread use of this therapy and, most of them, are designed to in-patient use. Also, there are difficulties to obtain the needed materials in the same package for specific use of treating open wounds, which causes delay in the treatment. We designed a kit that is cost-effective and ready-to-use to be used with Jackson-Pratt or Portovac style suction drains that allows a cheap, out-patient alternative for use in open-wound situations. We devise that this system could be used in emergency situations where there is a hostile environment such as natural catastrophes, war and emergency situations, as well as to regular in and out-patient wound care.
