Frequency specific sensory stimulation

Номер: US20130267759A1
Автор: YI Jin
Принадлежит: Newport Brain Res Labs Inc

One or more sensory, auditory and/or visual stimuli are presented to a subject at a specific frequency that is equal to, or a harmonic of, the intrinsic frequency of one or more of the subject's biological signals. The purpose is to indirectly (through the eyes, ears, or touch) provide frequency coupling among different organs (e.g., heart, brain, breathing, and gastrointestinal movement) through rhythmic entrainment. The specific harmonic chosen is the one closest to the interested EEG frequency. The interested frequency is chosen based on the cognitive element or symptom that is targeted. Additionally, games and programs (audio, video, computer) can incorporate Pavlovian cues to facilitate placing the brain in an acceptable state. In one embodiment, the ticking sound of a repetitive transcranial stimulation (rTMS) device is played to subconsciously remind the patient of the rTMS treatment and thereby produce a therapeutic effect. Additionally, physical stimulus such as tapping or low-level electrical stimulation at a predetermined rate will accomplish the same effect.

A light therapy system ( 12 ) for administering a controllable melanopic luminous exposure includes a controllable lighting assembly ( 16 ) for use in delivering the desired luminous exposure. The system further includes a visual display means ( 18 ) for presenting at the same time a visual output such as a video to the patient. A target melanopic luminous exposure for administration to the patient is received by a controller 24 . This target is then adjusted to compensate for an additional melanopic luminous exposure which the visual display means generates in displaying the visual output. A control schedule is then generated for controlling an illuminance of the lighting assembly to deliver over a defined treatment period the adjusted target melanopic luminous exposure. The lighting assembly is then controlled according to the control schedule. In this way both the visual output of the visual display means and the light output of the lighting assembly can be administered, while ensuring that the original target melanopic luminous exposure is delivered and not exceeded.

System and method for determining reference slow wave activity in a subject

Номер: US20200077919A1
Принадлежит: Koninklijke Philips NV

The present disclosure pertains to a reference slow wave activity metric determination system. Instead of collecting information during sleep sessions without stimulation (e.g., baseline and/or sham sessions) to determine a reference amount of slow wave activity in a subject, the present system is configured to build a model between stimulation properties and slow wave enhancement, and determine the reference amount of slow wave activity in the subject (e.g., corresponding to what would occur during baseline sleep and/or sham sessions) using the model. Advantageously, this approach does not require performance of baseline and/or sham sleep sessions, and enables personalization of the reference amount of slow wave activity, which dynamically increases its accuracy as more information is collected.
